About the Organization

  • The Biological Mass Spectrometry (BMS) Core Facility provides mass spectrometry services and support to researchers. The laboratory belongs to a family of advanced research facilities within the CORES (Centralized Operations of Research Equipment and Supports) program. Job Summary

  • Reporting administratively to the Manager, Research and Infrastructure Support in the Medical Research Development Office (MRDO), the Manager, BMS Core Facility is responsible for overseeing all research and analysis performed within the facility and the daytoday operations.

Duties include, but are not limited to, training and supervision of personnel, equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, and procurement of equipment and supplies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all equipment in the facility.
  • Work with vendors to negotiate repairs, maintenance contracts, and equipment purchases.
  • Supervise technical staff within the facility.
  • Supervise the training of research students, staff, and faculty on the operation of all liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry systems and software packages within the facility.

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters of Science in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field, with a minimum of 5 years of related experience in mass spectrometrybased workflows.
  • Demonstrable experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting LC-MS/MS systems involving triplequadrupole and orbitrap mass analyzers.
  • Demonstrable experience with relevant software packages (such as XCalibur, Analyst, ProteomeDiscoverer, CompoundDiscoverer, Skyline, Biopharma Finder, LipidSearch).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and managerial skills.

Assets

  • PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field.
  • Experience involving Ultimate 3000RSLCnano, Agilent 1290 UHPLC, Vanquish UHPLC, QExactive MS/MS, Qtrap5500 MS/MS and Fusion Lumos MS/MS with FAIMS source.
  • Demonstrable experience in the experimental design of proteomics, metabolomics and/or lipidomics experiments and workflows.
  • Experience and/or interest in organizing lectures & workshops and in attending conferences & advanced training workshops.
