    Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director of Engineering Services, the Manager, Security Operations is responsible for the projects and activities to address new and emerging requirements for security operations, including network security, application security, end user device security and Identity and Access management for the University and ACORN (Atlantic Canada Organization of Research Networks).

    Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing the IT strategic planning and realization of the University's and ACORN-NS IT security infrastructure, and related services. Play an active role in strategy and policy/procedure recommendations, to maintain current customer satisfaction and to build on our strategic vision.
  • Responsible for management of IT personnel, which includes the development of staff, and ensure the proper management and delivery of all programs, projects, and activities in their scope.
  • Provide IT architectural and engineering oversight, ensuring that the requirements for network security and edge devices are specified and the performance to specifications is tracked and if needed fixed, modified or repaired to achieve the desired levels of performance, reliability, quality, and capability.
  • Ensure the secure delivery of applications for enterprise systems, end devices and account provisioning which include: Cisco, Microsoft, Fortinet, device management, and more.
  • Establish and develop relationships with vendors and external constituents to provide improved services to the University community and organizational clients.
  • Assist the Associate Director of Engineering Services, and the Associate Director of Operations in prioritizing the daily operational work of the Security Support Team.
  • Note

    The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

    There is a requirement to be within proximity of campus to respond to critical incidents if required.

    Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, plus approximately five years' experience working with security systems and implementation in a complex multi-platform IT environment (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Experience managing an enterprise service delivery group.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment in a complex organizational environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with others.
  • Flexibility and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Assets

  • Master's of Internetworking or related security field.
