Our expert and service-focused staff guide guests on a journey of a lifetime with offerings including single-day or multi-day adventures of hiking, mountain biking, and flight-seeing/charters made only more unique by a stay in one of our 5 historic and fully serviced backcountry cabins and camps.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    Our Backcountry Hosts help to prepare our rustic backcountry camps for arriving guests, including cooking meals, cleaning up, and generally ensuring everyone is feeling welcomed and well taken care of. Once guests have departed, Hosts are responsible for cleaning up and closing their camp.

    YOU WILL

    • Open and prepare backcountry camps for guests, ensuring tents and the grounds are clean and ​​ready for their arrival. Other duties can include turning on water, propane, and electricity, chopping and stocking firewood, lighting and tending to wood stoves, and cleaning and stocking the outhouse and shower stall;
    • Welcome and orientate guests on arrival, answering any questions they have regarding their stay and providing them with snacks and refreshments;
    • Prepare and serve nutritious and healthy guest and staff meals - in accordance with Food Safe and Tyax Adventures expected high standards;
    • Clean up after guests and maintain the overall cleanliness of the camp. Duties can include washing up, wiping down surfaces, cleaning the fridge/freezer as necessary, sweeping cabin and tent floors, etc.;
    • Ensure that all food is handled and stored appropriately;
    • ​​​Assist the Food and Beverage Coordinator by maintaining an accurate inventory of all food and supplies in camp, as well as complete routine food and supply orders via inReach and/or radio;
    • Ensure camp waste is appropriately handled, and is maintained in a secure fashion;
    • Perform routine maintenance tasks as required;
    • Clean and close camp after guests depart, and prior to leaving camp.

    YOU HAVE

    • Previous experience cooking for groups of 10-20 in a remote camp setting;
    • FoodSafe level 1;
    • Basic first aid (an asset);
    • Wilderness experience and are comfortable working and travelling alone in the backcountry.

    THE FINE PRINT

    This is a full-time temporary position consisting of 12-hour shifts. Due to the nature of our work, adhering to a strict schedule may not always be possible and we expect flexibility in this regard. In accordance with BC Employment Standards Regulations, our employees enter an overtime averaging agreement. We provide staff housing, meals, a caring and committed managerial and ownership group, and the opportunity to spend your summer in the most beautiful place on earth.
