Legal Counsel - Calgary, Canada - Canadian Pacific

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Work independently with various internal business departments as required from timetotime, in negotiating and drafting commercial rail transportation contracts and related agreements
- Provide legal support and counsel to the Sales and Marketing Department and other internal business departments as dictated by the needs of the departments and the direction of the Senior Legal Counsel
- Commercial and Legal Services leadership team;
- Assist in developing tariffs and other ancillary terms and conditions of rail transportation services
- Prepare precedence forms of agreement to reflect current legal trends
- Provide instructions, direction and oversight to outside counsel in their performance of CPKC legal work in all matters assigned to outside counsel
- Professionally and effectively communicate with internal clients and the Legal Services leadership team in a timely manner
- Provide backup and support for the commercial legal team other members of the Legal Services team as required; and
- Other duties as determined from timetotime by Senior Legal Counsel
- Commercial and the Legal Services leadership team
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduate of a recognized law school and membership in the Law Society of one or more of the provinces of Canada;
- Minimum 5 to 7 years of legal practice in a private law firm, or corporate law department;
- Knowledge of transportation and regulatory laws, both federal and provincial, would be an asset;
- Ability to manage relationships with outside counsel;
- Demonstrated organizational skills to prioritize high volume work load in a timesensitive environment;
- Strong team player with demonstrated experience in participating in multifaceted transactions and achieving successful results with a diverse group of stakeholders;
- Willingness and ability to work outside of normal business hours as required to provide timely legal advice and services; and
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.

Management Conductor Program:
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC.
