CUPE 5791 Job Family Category Staff Number of Vacancies 1 Position Summary


This position plays the lead role in graduate program advising as well as a support role in the overall administration of the graduate program.

The position also provides supports to the undergraduate program within the Faculty of Social Work as necessary.

This position will engage with a culturally and geographically diverse student body through both face to face and distance modalities.

Working collaboratively in a team environment, this position will create and provide outstanding service to our students, staff, and faculty.


Under the overall supervision of the Faculty of Social Work, Faculty Administrator, a primary function of the incumbent is student recruitment and retention for the Faculty of Social Work graduate programs through student advising and support.

The incumbent will work closely with the Associate Dean - Research and Graduate to support and help grow the graduate program,


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Student advising, counseling and registration.
  • Program communications and coordination of events such as orientations and recruitment events, defenses and seminars.
  • Updating the Faculty of Social Work section of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research calendar.
  • Compiling graduation statistics, forecasting course demand, detail registration audit, updating MSW access database
  • Coordinating transfer credit requests
  • Coordinating documentation for research and teaching assistants appointments
  • Updating information for web pages
  • Monitoring students registration and program progress
  • Identifying students not meeting program plan and timelines and initiating program review with students
  • Developing and delivering presentations and coordinating and managing projects.
  • Assist with the undergraduate program on a limited basis. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to; helping with strategic projects, advising and admissions.
Position Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree supplemented by three years of related experience preferably in a University advising environment;
  • Must have direct experience advising students; Knowledge of goodpractice mentoring;
  • Must have extensive knowledge of the University's and the Faculty's academic policies and procedures, administrative systems, programs and registration procedures;
  • Exceptional communication (oral and written), interpersonal and presentation skills and ability to work with diverse clientele;
  • Must have direct experience working with Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, Outlook (GroupWise), Access and PowerPoint;
  • Experience working with complex databases such as: Banner, Caspur, UR Self Service, UR Docs, Footprints, FAST, Skype;
  • Experience using distance communication modalities, with flexibility and adaptability to learning new technologies;
  • Knowledge of Graduate and Undergraduate Programs and the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research policies and procedures is a requirement;
  • Must have knowledge of Scholarships and Awards, financial aid with the University, and Canada-Saskatchewan Integrated Student Loan Programs;
  • Must have knowledge of Social Work professional organizations (CASW, CASWE, SASW) and how they interact with graduate students and faculty members;
  • Keen attention to detail;
  • Ability to coordinate and administer projects and events, and manage multiple tasks;
  • Ability to travel is required approximately four to six day trips a year;
  • Preference will be given to individuals with an academic background in Social Work, ideally the Master's program.
Physical Demands Pay Grade APT 4 Salary Range $61,375 - $82,823 Annually Status Permanent Work Hours

8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This position is located at the Faculty of Social Work's

Regina Campus.
