The Electrician provides service and technical expertise in the areas of electrical systems and data systems and infrastructure.

The Electrical Tradesperson maintains real-time service reliability to critical life-safety, information, and electrical systems and optimises utility consumption efficiency across CUE premises.


They need to be able to work independently and as well as get along well with co-workers and stakeholders in a collaborative work environment.


The friendly and courteous team member's responsibilities include: installing, altering, repairing and maintaining electrical systems that are designed to provide heat, light, power, control, signals and fire alarms for all CUE premises.

Coordinates the activities of trade-related outsource service providers.

The Electrician mainly supports the Plant Operations team but is also expected to collaborate with IT services to ensure the success of Concordia.


Responsibilities:


  • Electrical systems maintenance, upgrades and installations
  • Install, replace and repair lighting fixtures and electrical control and distribution equipment, such as switches, relays and circuit breaker panels
  • Data cabling systems maintenance
  • Pull wire through conduits and through holes in walls and floors
  • Install brackets and hangers to support electrical equipment
  • Splice, join and connect wire to fixtures and components to form circuits
  • Connect electrical power to audio and visual communication equipment, signalling devices and heating and cooling systems
  • Test continuity of circuits using test equipment to ensure compatibility and safety of system, following installation, replacement or repair
  • Perform electrical repairs and maintenance services in accordance with electrical code specifications, including but not limited to assembling, installing, repairing and maintaining electrical equipment and components; testing; troubleshooting and isolating faults in electrical and electronic systems; and replacing faulty components as required
  • Creating project timelines, bill of materials and labour cost estimates from electrical drawings
  • Oversee activities of external service providers in related field
  • Interact and establish good customer relationships with client contacts
  • Conduct monthly preventive maintenance programs on Electrical systems including fire alarm inspections, maintenance and repairs, and emergency lights testing and keep maintenance records and coordinate annual inspections by third party
  • Respond to service requests and emergencies and Emergency Oncall responsibilities
  • Provide support and direction to additional crews on other projects as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:


  • Journeyman Certificate of competency, Red Seal preferred
  • Master Electrical certificate considered an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the trade as a Journeyperson
  • Understanding of communications specific to electrician trade and experience in commercial electrician environment
  • Basic Knowledge of microcontrollers and their programming is an asset.
  • Basic familiarity with relevant trade practices.
  • Working knowledge of: HVAC systems and controls, BMS / DDC control systems, cooking, heating, and refrigeration appliances, national and Alberta building, refrigeration, electrical, and heating codes, lighting, lighting control systems, ballasts, and other associated components.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical and architectural drawings, specifications, codes, circuit diagrams and electrical code specifications
  • Exceptional troubleshooting/complex technical problem solving abilities.
