Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Workplace Health & Safety this position is responsible and accountable to provide case management of all work-related injury claims and short term and long-term disability claims in a continuously changing work environment.
This position focuses on the employee's medical management, treatment, and needs to facilitate a safe and timely return to work.
This is done through effective communication of information, analysis of the employee's abilities and restrictions relative to their job demands, negotiation of return to work plans and evaluation of the employee's placement in the workforce.
Primary Role and Responsibility:
1.
Planning & Implementing:
i. Work collaboratively with the employee, management, human resources, benefit department, insurance providers, unions and Occupational Health and Safety team to effectively coordinate management of claims
ii. Provide support to both employees and managers
iii. Assist with development and implementation of programs and policies to address Ability Management within Covenant care and covenant living
iv. Plan and implement training and education to staff and management
v. Implement "stay at work" initiatives in cooperation with the insurance carrier as appropriate

Case Management:
Initiates and plans ability/disability case management by:
i. Serve as primary ability management contact with WCB and other insurance providers
ii. Review all medical aid and lost time employee Incident/Injury forms and follow-up on all lost time claims
iii. Develop and maintain an atmosphere of trust and mutual support with employees and managers
iv. Effectively manage claims within appropriate time lines, acting on return to work barriers
v. Facilitate return to work opportunities for injured/ill workers by consulting with insurance provider, health care providers, manager, union and human resources advisors
vi. Evaluate employee progress and readiness to return to work. Identify and facilitate ergonomic modifications of the job as required
vii. Facilitate or lead return to work meetings of all stakeholders
viii. Develop written return to work plans and communicate these plans to all stakeholders
ix. Monitor success of return to work plans through on-going communication with the employee, manager and Human Resources, making changes as required
x. Respond to internal and external inquiries
xi. Update the Manager of Occupational Health on pertinent issues and concerns
xii. Assist with resolution of employee and manager concerns. Refer employee to EFAP as necessary
Qualifications:
- Formal Education
- Experience
ii. Knowledge of medical conditions, terminology and ergonomics required
iii. Knowledge of short
- and long-term disability policies and procedures; Human Rights Legislation and Duty to Accommodate
- Special Knowledge Skills
ii. Ability to envision short
- and long-term goals
iii. Strong oral and written communication skills
iv. Computer literacy in Word, Excel, etc./strong computer skills
v. Self-motivated and self-directed
vi. Organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple assignments
vii. Ability to work in an environment
