Description
The Youth Outreach Worker will provide oversight to child/youth ministries programs.

Give focused attention to strengthen and grow the programs and attend to the spiritual growth and development of the youth.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Canon Ridge Youth Programming

  • Work in partnership and with oversight from the Community & Family Services Coordinator to plan and implement programming for children and youth in the community.
  • Plan, supervise, implement, and participate in regular events primarily focused on youth and their families with the goal of creating fun, fellowship, and outreach (e.g., Christmas assistance, Camps, Red Cap, Vacation bible school, food programs, afterschool programs, etc.)
  • Assist with community and family service ministry when needed and with outreach programs for youth.
  • Interact with community partners as necessary to seek resources and services for youth ministries.
  • Demonstrate keen interest in connecting young families to Canon Ridge and Edmonton Crossroads Community Church through outreach programs and relationship building.

Crossroads Youth Programming

  • Work alongside Corps Officer(s) to prepare and deliver children and youth worship services, and devotionals, for both the senior corps and for youth events on a semi regular basis.
  • Contribute to the spiritual development of children/youth and their families within the church and community by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate attitudes and behaviors.
  • In consultation with leadership, seek and implement quality discipleship programs for Sunday school, community outreach programs, and youth discipleship programs. Regularly assess effectiveness and make recommendations for change as needed.
  • Support and participate in Divisional youth events.

Administration

  • Prepare and maintain written records/logs of activities, including activity reports and statistical information.
  • Assist in the maintenance of volunteer files and statistical records as directed.
  • May participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the Youth Programs.

Communication

  • Communicate in an empathetic manner with congregants, families, and staff.
  • Inform the Corps Officer and Community and Family Services Coordinator regarding any concerns or issues in a timely manner.

Health and Safety

  • Maintain program storage areas (e.g., updating, safety, organizing, etc.).
  • Seek out continual education in food safety and health standards, including maintaining Safe Food Handling Certification.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all COVID19 protocols and requirements.
Perform other duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:


  • NOTE: For some jobs, you may be required to provide validated educational documentation.

Education/Certifications:


  • Completion of high school diploma.
  • Current Safe Food Handling Certificate. Otherwise, obtaining the certification within the first month of employment. Employee is responsible for maintaining current certification.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification. Otherwise obtaining the certification within the first month of employment. Employee is responsible for maintaining certification current.
  • Proficiency with social media and Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Workspace.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience and Skill Knowledge Requirements:


  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience working with youth and youth programming.
  • Understanding of children and youth, and associated needs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of working with the marginalized.
  • Respect and understanding in working with different cultures and ethnicities.
  • Valid Alberta Class "5" Driver's License; personal vehicle and insurance, and a current copy of a Driver's abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Understand, support and be able to communicate and model the Mission, Values, Doctrines, and policies of The Salvation Army in Canada.
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
