    Position Summary
  • The Manager Indigenous Education Initiatives is a strategic and operational leader in the Curriculum and Pedagogy portfolio. The Manager will lead, develop and oversee the implementation of Indigenous education initiatives across VCC with respect to curriculum and pedagogy in support of VCC's efforts in decolonization, Indigenization, and reconciliation. The Manager works in close association with the Dean, Curriculum and Pedagogy and Indigenous Initiatives Faculty Advisor, as well as the Indigenous Education and Community Engagement office. The Manager is a key VCC representative on relevant sector government external groups and committees.
    Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership and Planning

  • Contributes to the success and ongoing development of VCC's strategic priorities, initiatives and programs related to the Indigenization Strategy by maintaining awareness of emerging innovations and best practices in Indigenous education, identifying opportunities to enhance student success, courses and programs.
  • Works in collaboration with staff from Indigenous Education and Community Engagement on projects, and initiatives.
  • Participates in the College's strategic plan initiatives relevant to the academic innovation, decolonization, and Indigenization.

Programs & Services

  • Contributes to leadership with and provide specific advice on Indigenizing VCC campuses, Indigenous knowledge, and ways of knowing aligned with the strategic plan.
  • Analyzes and summarizes a wide variety of Indigenous student data on such issues as enrolment levels and comparisons, graduate outcomes, educational costs, student achievement indices, attrition rates, student demographics, tuition fees etc. to provide recommendations to enhance programming.,
  • Builds relationships with members of VCC's academic and service departments in order to gather information about learning needs in relation to Indigenous educational development with Indigenization, Decolonization and Reconciliation in the forefront of this role.
  • Builds relationships with members of the VCC campus community to develop Indigenous resources.
  • Completes research and reports to advance universitywide efforts to strengthen Indigenous knowledge, Indigenous histories, and decolonizing traditional Western histories and pedagogies and methodologies.
  • Contributes to engagement with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Indigenous and nonIndigenous faculty and scholars, teachers, staff, students, and Indigenous communities and organizations.
  • Contribute to establish processes with respect to the recognition of Indigenous knowledges in PLAR.
  • Serves as a VCC representative on sector and government related groups including BCPLAR.
  • Leads Indigenous focused activities and services in alignment with VCC's strategic goals for enhancing Indigenous student success in partnership with IECE.
  • Coordinates resources, services and activities in support of Indigenous learner success in collaboration with VCC departments.
  • Takes a lead role in coordination with the Dean to ensure appropriate relevant and current services and supports are available and accessed by Indigenous learners?
  • Participates in Indigenous events and ceremonies in partnership with IECE.

Procurement, Contracts and Budget Management

  • Identifies sources of external funding for Indigenous Initiatives, programming and prepares requests for proposals in consultation with the Dean and partners.
  • Establishes and manages project budgets, ensuring adherence to budget targets, and oversees projectrelated expenses as required.
  • Undertakes projects and Indigenous initiatives.


Internal & External Relations- Develops and maintains positive relationships with internal and external constituents, partners, allies, and collaborators such as other post-secondary institutions, Indigenous organizations, and funding agencies.
