We are seeking an individual who is passionate about supporting from a harm-reduction approach while serving program participants. Our programs and services include employment services, supportive housing and homeless outreach, temporary shelter services, literacy programs and outreach, immigrant services, adult and family on-demand support.

We also provide community leadership and development in overdose response planning, poverty reduction planning, and other projects that develop a more connected and resilient community.

Lift operates many resource centres in our community, including the local WorkBC Centre, the Community Resource Centre, the Family Place, and the Dr.

Elsie Paul Literacy Centre and the Nook Social Enterprise Cafe both located at the Powell River Public Library.

The Position


Under the direction of the Community Support Programs manager, the Community Resource Coordinator assumes responsibility for program delivery, service development, and client support at the CRC, which includes facilitating meetings and workshops for both adults and youth.

This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all community members including those who may benefit from supports and services to help manage a variety of personal challenges.


Overview

  • Hours: 32 hrs/wk
  • Hourly Wage: $28.80/hr
  • Job Type: Regular fulltime
  • Reports to: Community Support Programs Manager
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Closing Date: March 30, 2023

Key Tasks and Competencies

  • Work alongside clients and community partners to determine and implement appropriate programs, workshops, information sessions, clinics, etc.
  • Coordinate and monitor use of the Centre by community partners and service providers; explore program enhancement or improvement, and troubleshoot issues arising
  • Organize and attend weekly meetings with direct reports, site staff, peers and volunteers
  • Provide lifeskills coaching, referrals to other community services and resources, advocacy, and other client support as needed
  • Consult with Food Systems Manager to plan and facilitate garden activities
  • Assist in facilitating community workshops, including for youth
  • Solicit feedback from clients and coordinate formal evaluation processes

Qualifications and Lived Experience

  • Experience in staff supervision and support, and fostering and working within a team environment
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with community partners
  • Ability to handle stress within a demanding and dynamic environment, function under pressure, and adapt to changing demands
  • Demonstrated ability to develop rapport with diverse clientele including multibarriered clients
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary case management team
  • Knowledge of other community resources available and referral procedures

Requirements:


  • Requires Vulnerable Sector Check and/or Criminal Record Check clearance
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to transport supplies locally

Specialized knowledge

  • Demonstrated understanding of harm reduction and housing first principles
  • Experience providing/leading group activities (workshops, service club, etc.)
  • Demonstrated crosscultural experience
  • First Aid, CPR and Naloxone
  • Demonstrated nonviolent crisis intervention and conflict deescalation skills. NVCI or Mandt certification is an asset.
  • Knowledge of stigma, marginalization, peer work and human rights for people who use substances.
  • Knowledge of organic gardening techniques, 3 years market /productionbased gardening/farming from fruit trees and herbs to veggies
