_ This position is offered through the support of the Government of Canada-Canada Summer Jobs Program. All applicants must meet the minimum requirements of that program (see below)_. This position will support the Family Treatment Programs recreational programming for the summer months by organizing, planning, leading and participating in family based activities that provide a therapeutic benefit to participants. These activities will promote positive attachment, build leadership skills, be developmentally appropriate and provide enjoyment for families. The Family Treatment Recreation Worker assists participants; supports and implements recreation plans; and ensures that family strengths are maximized.
- must be between 16 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
- was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;
- intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;
- is a student in post-secondary, vocational, or technical program;
- is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and;
- is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.


Qualifications

Education and Professional Certification

  • Completion of a high school diploma.
  • A certificate, diploma, or degree in child and youth care, recreation or related field is an asset.

Experience

  • Up to one (1) year of experience working with children, youth, and/or families.
  • Experience working independently with diverse populations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Services

  • Leads families in recreational activities communicating expectations, goals and instructions.
  • Maintain a therapeutic milieu.
  • Collaborate with the team to strategically plan and assign daily tasks.
  • Supports families while they participate in therapeutic activities to build confidence and work through challenges. Support and guide participants in reaching individual and group goals.
  • Participates in recreation programming with families to build a strong therapeutic relationship.
  • Organizes familybased recreational opportunities that are therapeutic and developmentally suitable for each family
  • Plans activities collaboratively with other staff and families to ensure their interests are being met
  • Reports to other staff regarding challenges or success's they observed during program delivery, informally and via written documentation
  • Teaches new skills to participants based on personal knowledge and/or family interest.
  • Motivates participants with high energy and enthusiasm for all activities
  • Transport participants for treatmentrelated purposes as required.
  • Document all incidents and updates such as; communication log, critical incidents and any other individual or family updates. Complete reports and documentation clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Leadership

  • Provide direction, guidance, and mentorship to employees and participants.
  • Display positive role modelling, agency values, and fairness.
  • Collaborate with and communicate to the multidisciplinary team when required.

Management of Resources

  • Identify required resources for recreation plans.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with community resources when required.
  • Submit receipts and reconcile expenses for manager approved expenditures.
  • Ensure mileage log is completed accurately when agency vehicle is used.
