Job Summary


The MacEwan University Health Centre is a state-of-the art primary care clinic located in downtown Edmonton just off MacEwan University campus.

We are looking to add a temporary full-time Clinical Health Assistant to our team.

The Clinical Health Assistant (CHA) is typically the first point of clinical contact for patients and is responsible for providing care and support to patients in the clinical environment, as well as helping them navigate community resources.

Similar to that of a Medical Office Assistant, the Clinical Health Assistant (CHA) features an exciting expanded scope aspect to this role as a non-physician practitioner which allows for more training and educational opportunities.

The Clinical Health Assistant works collaboratively with another CHA, their Primary Care nurse supervisor and a physician lead to manage an assigned panel of patients.

This will be a demanding, challenging, and rewarding role within the clinic.


Duties and Responsibilities

Direct Patient Work:


  • Communicates with patients by phone as per team member task requests
  • Greets and rooms patients
  • Reviews routine screening for prevention and detection of diseases and/or illnesses and initiates requisitions for services
  • Performs vitals
  • Elicits focused histories for specialized presenting concerns
  • Assists in minor procedures as required
  • Chaperons for sensitive exams
  • Performs initial blood and urine screening
  • Performs electrocardiograms
  • Updates EMR as required
  • Prints post visit summary for patient
  • Assists with home visits as required
  • Assists with group visits as required

Indirect Patient Work:


  • Participate in morning huddle with nurse, physician and residents
  • Prepare schedule and charts for next day's patients
  • Work with the team nurse to follow up on any team tasks
  • Organize group visits materials, patients, logistics, staff required, and notification of patients

Non-patient Work:


  • Sterilizes surgical equipment
  • Create supply lists, cleans and stocks rooms
  • Cleans computers, monitors and surfaces in exam rooms

Qualifications

  • Medical Office Assistant diploma/certification
  • 2+ years' medical office experience, Primary Care experience considered an asset
  • EMR experience an asset
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Willing to train for expanded scope practices such as Phlebotomies, ECG's, etc.
  • Professional and friendly manner
  • Enthusiastic and thrives in a fast paced and changing environment
