Job Summary


The Specialist Business Analysis is responsible for identifying, eliciting, analyzing, specifying, and validating the business needs of users throughout CN and for specific projects or initiatives.

The Specialist acts as a liaison between the I&T groups (architecture, design, delivery, quality assurance, project management) and the business and translates needs into detailed stakeholder requirements/user stories, which the Specialist will follow through the project life cycle.

This specific role is to support the Safety, Environment and Regulatory portfolio and will be closely aligned with projects and products within this vertical.


Main Responsibilities

Gathering and Managing Business Needs

  • Plan business analysis activities for projects/initiatives
  • Specify project requirements and analyze project requirement relationships (affinity diagrams, fishbone, feasibility analysis, etc.), maintain traceability of requirement changes and establish their priority
  • Organize and facilitate workshops, interviews and meetings, while being mindful of the impact of organizational changes
  • Create and validate current and future processes with business partners
  • Map business processes and roles to activities (workflow diagrams, responsible, accountable, consulting, informed matrix [RACI], etc.) following CN's classification standards
  • Analyze processes to identify business opportunities
  • Elicit and document business requirements from internal and external partners (requirements traceability matrix (RTMs), user stories, use cases, etc.)
  • Analyze, synthesize, document, explain and communicate business information to technical teams and vice versa
  • Understand solution gaps and communicate the impacts to the business
  • Support the business in program increment/product backlog prioritization and in testing activities

Cross Project Integration

  • Lead crossfunctional collaboration with other projects or programs to validate business needs
  • Understand crossproject dependencies to align project deliverables

Coach

  • Coach project team members on the delivery approach (Agile hybrid methodology) and business analysis concepts (process mapping, user stories, acceptance criteria, etc.)
  • Share business and expertise knowledge with project team members and with the business analysts community

Business Analysis Practice Development

  • Work closely with the Business Analysis colleagues and other I&T stakeholders on the continuous improvement of the business analysis framework and toolkit

Working Conditions
The Specialist may be required to travel occasionally in North America.


Experience
Relevant Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in business analysis and processes
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma and Agile methodologies
  • Experience with process mapping
  • Experience in project management methodology
  • Experience with Safety systems/platforms/solution vendors; such as Enablon*
    Education/Certification/Designation
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent degree and experience


  • IIBA Certification

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Scrum Master Certification
  • Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset
