Human Resources Associate - Health & Safety

Reporting to the Manager of Human Resources, the Human Resources Associate - Health & Safety is responsible for the following:

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of the Town's health and safety programs and implements policies and procedures as required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Workplace Safety Insurance Act through deliberations with the HR Manager.
  • Maintains records of inspection reports, meeting minutes, risk assessments, accidents/incidents/near misses, and health and safety communications.
  • Reviews existing safety procedures and risk assessments to ensure adherence with internal standards; identifies noncompliant, incomplete or substandard procedures, assists with revising existing procedures or helps management in developing new procedures when required.
  • Performs workplace inspections to ensure safe work practices, procedures and regulatory requirements; recommends corrective action where noncompliance with workplace standards is evident; conducts workplaces audits and makes recommendations based on best practices while maintaining legislative compliance.
  • In collaboration with the HR Manager administers and maintains the disability management processes in compliance with applicable legislation, including disability and WSIB matters, absence management, return to work and accommodation programs.
  • Plans, designs, and delivers H&S training programs and ensures records are accurately maintained, current and readily accessible and identifies additional health and safety needs.
  • Member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee and organizes supporting health and safety efforts in the workplace.
  • Receives Health and Safety Incident Forms and monitors managers' followup actions for investigating incidents, determining root cause and actions taken for prevention. Responsible for WSIB and submitting forms
  • Employee Claims (form 6, 7, 8), follow ups, training, and audits.
  • Works with departments and Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development in the event of Orders, critical injuries, incident investigations, work refusals, reports of worker complaints and the like. Liaise with regulatory officials to ensure supporting documentation is accurate and submitted within required timelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with the objectives of the Human Resources Division and Corporation objectives.

The successful applicant will possess:

  • A Degree or Diploma in Human Resources, Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 (four) years of related work experience with Occupational Health and Safety, promoting safe work practices and policies, WHMIS, WSIB, disability management, accommodations, H&S training, and maintaining H&S training records in a Municipal environment.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Certification or equivalent.
  • Workplace-Specific Hazard Certification Part 1 and 2 and current Standard First Aid certification.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of hazard identification, auditing, risk assessments, ergonomics assessments with a proven ability to recognize and evaluate occupational health and safety hazards and recommend effective control measures.
  • Formal training in ergonomics and assessments, experience developing and delivering various related health and safety training courses.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, problemsolving, oral, and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Valid G driver's license with a clear driver's abstract and access to a vehicle to respond to emergency situations.

Salary Range:
$81, $98,898.80
