What will you be doing?

  • Lead a team of three GIS professionals; providing guidance, mentorship, coaching and planning
  • Utilize the team's proficiency in GIS operations to enable efficient residential waste collections, driving increased efficiency and customer service, through the development and deployment of route design
  • Manage all GIS data including geospatial database management and automated workflows
  • Review and approve spatial data collection methodologies, data processing, and map production
  • Developing performance measures (KPIs) for GIS Mapping Programs, and reviewing and realizing opportunities to automate current manual processes
  • Develop and implement GIS strategies and long range business plans aligned with organizational goals

Qualifications:


  • University Degree in Geography, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or Business;
  • A minimum of four (4) years experience directly related to GIS and Geomatics, including spatial data analysis, mapping, and geospatial technology solutions

Assets:


  • Knowledge of data mining and optimization techniques and data visualization using tools such as MicroStrategy, Tableau, Google Cloud Platform, Google Big Query, Looker Studio
  • Expert knowledge of Business Integration and data warehouse technologies
  • Expert knowledge of data processing and management including experience with SQL, PL/SQL and maintenance of enterpriselevel data systems such as Oracle, APEX, and SQL Server
  • Expert knowledge of ETL methodologies and best practices, including familiarity with FME software
  • Knowledge of statistical methodologies including trend analysis, forecasting, structural equation modeling and factor analysis
  • Proficient in statistical software (e.g. SPSS, R) and data mining or optimization software (e.g. KNIME, AMPL, Matlab)
  • Proven ability to lead, coach and mentor staff to embody the City's key leadership competencies
  • Excellent project and process management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects/process concurrently and proactively
  • Highly developed problemsolving, critical thinking and decisionmaking skills
  • Strong ability to reconcile business and technical conflicts and issues; strong ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills and developing reports
  • Significant ability and skill in establishing and maintaining relationships, leading/facilitating meetings of multiple stakeholders

Conditions of Employment:


  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
  • Applicants will be required to arrange their own transportation and where appropriate will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require the applicant to obtain business auto insurance.
