Responsibilities

  • Assists students in connecting with other agencies when students or families need outside intervention by securing health services, daycare, public schools, family settlement services, or other provisions that may improve student attendance and academic performance.
  • Assists in developing programs to meet identified needs of students and families in collaboration with other community agencies and/or organizations.
  • Participates in community activities and joins committees that directly or indirectly affect the needs of TSoM's students and families as time permits.
  • Accepts the responsibility to always promote the welfare and best interests of students.
  • Performs assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations, and goals of the institution, and community.
  • Demonstrates commitment by fostering and supporting a teaching, learning, and working environment that honours diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Maintains student's documentation, updates records, and completes all other paperwork duties as required while maintaining confidentiality.

Education and Experience:


  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Social Work, Psychology, Family Studies, Child Development or Education
  • Minimum three (3) years of successful experience providing human and /or educational services.

Knowledge and Skills**:


  • Proven organizational, time management, case management, and crisis management experience related to managing family files.
  • Knowledge of and respect for the diverse culture, families, and religious practices.
  • Knowledge of community services for newcomers to Canada and placement resources in the area.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Immigration laws and regulations for international students.
  • Maintain and provide a high level of confidentiality with clients.
  • Good computer skills including excel, word, and outlook.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teambuilding skills.
  • Exceptional written and communication skills, inclusive of mediation skills.
  • Excellent risk assessment and problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent Child/family assessment skills.
