D U T I E S
Reporting to the Chair of Community Services, the instructor will teach in a variety of programs that include
Child and Youth Care, Disability and Community Support and Early Childhood Education. The instructor will be
required to teach a course centered on providing a context for supporting Indigenous people in the community.
workshops and training related to Indigenous history and culture as well as a deep understanding of Indigegogy
and Truth and Reconciliation. Instructors are responsible for creating and maintaining a welcoming, positive
learning environment that supports diverse learners while building community. Duties include but are not limited

to:
maintaining student records, classroom management, student evaluation, Work-Integrated-Learning
(practicum) supervision, marking and grade submission, preparing course outlines and curriculum development.
The Instructor may be asked to teach either online and/or in-person.

  • R E Q U I R E D Q U A L I F I C A T I O N S
  • A University Degree in a relevant field of study, i.e., Indigenous Studies, Community Services, or Social
Sciences. An equivalent combination of education, training and lived experience working with Indigenous
culture may be considered.

  • Several years experience working in Community Services, Child and Youth Care, Disability and Community
Support and/or Early Childhood Education, specifically working with Indigenous children, youth, families and
adults

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to use conflict resolution techniques to facilitate positive
outcomes

  • Effective written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Effective leadership skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in small to large group settings
  • Proficient in the use of computer, table, and/or smartphone as well as Microsoft Office tools Work, Excel, and
PowerPoint

  • Ability to create a positive classroom environment for diverse learners with a commitment to student success
  • Extensive experience in the history Indigenous Peoples in Canada, and of Truth & Reconciliation
  • Extensive knowledge of Indigenous culture, history, knowledge systems and community relationship building
practices

  • Lived experience and/or expertise in Indigenous knowledges, Indigeogy, epistemologies, methodologies,
histories, traditions, and/or languages

  • Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous
improvement

  • A S S E T S
  • Teaching For Learning Certificate or equivalent Adult Education certification
  • Experience teaching at the postsecondary level in person and/or online
  • Selfidentifies as an indigenous person

  • Instructors are required to complete the Teaching for Learning (TFL) in Applied Education program or have
previously completed the Certificate in Adult Education (CAE)
