As British Columbia's flagship convention centre, the Vancouver Convention Centre hosts more than 500 events each year and welcomes hundreds of thousands of global attendees to its premier conferences, trade shows, banquets and more.

We're currently searching for a new Event Sales Manager to join our team, and we would love to hear from you if you think you're a good fit.

Reporting to the Manager, Event Sales, the consultative sales and event execution focused position will be responsible for leading clients through the sales cycle, beginning with event inquiry and discovery, through the planning and execution, and finally to the post-event.


The Event Sales Manager will be responsible for building and sustaining relationships with existing and new clients, industry partners, stakeholders and suppliers and leverage these relationships to deliver innovative and memorable events.


WHAT YOU WILL DO:


  • Sets up and participates in the event discovery to understand clients' overall event objectives and find creative ways in which the Convention Centre can support clients through the achievement of those goals.
  • Negotiates rental and service agreements that balance the client's expectations with facility standards while maximizing revenue and positioning the Vancouver Convention Centre as the venue of choice.
  • Reviews booking calendar and provides recommendations for dates and spaces; ensures the facility is maximizing space utilization and overlaying without conflicting with other business.
  • Creates proposals, license agreements, and addendums, which requires excellent attention to detail and which involves research and the collection of accurate and current information, including space rental, floor plans, seating arrangements, food and beverage, etc.
  • Negotiates contract components including space and date requirements, rental rates, and services such as catering, audiovisual, and telecommunications.
  • Oversees suppliers and frontline staff during events with the Operations Manager.
  • Coordinates multiclient use of facility with other Event Managers as well as with other tenants in the building.
  • Communicates clients' overall event objectives and requirements to the appropriate team members, staff, and suppliers. This includes ongoing communication and briefings with different stakeholders as event details and requirements change.
  • Engages regularly with clients onsite to ensure client expectations are being met, or exceeded.
  • Ensures client information is updated in the event business management software (EBMS).

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:


  • Degree or diploma in event management, hospitality, tourism, project management or similar discipline is an asset but not a requirement.
  • In lieu of formal education, extensive experience in these fields will be considered.
  • Direct experience in sales and/or client relations is required.
  • Direct experience in the event planning, event production, and event management industry is preferred.
  • Experience working with eventsmanagement based software such as Ungerboeck (EBMS) is an asset.
  • Exceptional customer experience skills with ability to anticipate clients needs.
  • Strong time management & multitasking skills and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Understanding of negotiation and interpretation of contracts.
  • Ability to work outside of regular Monday
  • Friday schedule as required based on events schedule.
