    We are looking for a Technical Officer to support our Construction Research Centre. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

    The successful candidate will play an important role within a team working towards sustainable and resilient urban infrastructures including but not limited to roads. Responsibilities will include the provision of technical support services in the design, planning, preparation, conduct and analysis of various experiments and/or field tests, and the coordination and maintenance of the road's laboratory and related equipment. Project management, interaction with clients and collaborators, initiation and follow-up procurement delivery and evaluation of necessary equipment and preparation and presentation of project reports.

    Screening Criteria


    Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

    Education


    Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, chemical engineering or any other discipline related to the position.

    Certification as an Asphalt Technician by Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL) or other equivalent types would be an asset.

    Preference may be given to candidates with a multidisciplinary background in various geotechnical applications field investigations, QC/QA, or condition surveys Equivalencies may be considered.

    Experience

    • Experience in the planning and execution of laboratory and field experiments.
    • Significant experience in Marshall and/or Superpave asphalt mix design and testing, with a strong understanding of industry standards and specifications.
    • Experience in the design of field experiments investigating road pavements.
    • Experience with data processing, management and quality checks.
    • Familiarity with safety protocols related to road and pavement laboratory equipment operation.
    • Strong organizational skills to manage maintenance schedules and documentation.
    • Effective communication skills for collaborating with research teams and equipment vendors.
    • Experience working in a project management focused multi-disciplinary research environment.

    Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

    Technical Competencies

    • Knowledge of applied practices and basic concepts relating to characterization of different road construction materials, development and evaluation of asphalt mix designs incorporating various additives and modifiers. General knowledge of related industry trends, developments and best practices.
    • Knowledge of design codes, guides, and infrastructure guidelines and associated standards related to asphalt and roads would be an asset.
    • Knowledge of occupational health and safety best practices required to create and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
    • Ability to analyze and discuss technical issues, troubleshoot and solve problems relating to quality and performance of asphalt samples.
    • Ability to write reports and draft protocols and standard operating procedures.
    • Ability to assist in the design and fabrication of custom tools or fixtures for specialized testing needs.
    • Ability to use specialized domain-specific software including Universal Testing Machine software products, as well as general office software products.

    Compensation


    ~ Salary under review ~

    From $58,445 to $80,040 per annum.
