About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a
Regular full-time, Manager, Cell Processing to join our dynamic
Medical Affairs and Innovation team.


The
Medical Affairs and Innovation team provides medical and scientific leadership across a range of specialized areas both within Canadian Blood Services and in interacting with external partners and stakeholders.

The team has both strategic visioning responsibility and operational responsibility in the areas of innovation and portfolio management, organ and stem cell donation and transplantation, plasma protein and related products formulary management, medical laboratory, donor and clinical services, medical microbiology and epidemiology, and medical and scientific support to operations and hospital relations.


Reporting to the Associate Director of Stem Cell Operations, the Manager, Cell Processing, is responsible for the management of cell processing activities at the two regional sites located in Ottawa and Edmonton.

In this role you will play a key role in the oversight for all stem cell, cord blood and cellular therapy processing as well as all in-process, final product testing and QC testing of products.

In collaboration with other Stem Cell team members the Manager, Cell Processing is expected to identify standardization opportunities, process improvement and continuous improvements that align with the strategic direction of CBS and the Stem Cell program.


As Manager, Cell Processing, you will follow all corporate Quality Management System (QMS) process and will be responsible and accountable for managing deviations, service and supply interruptions including reagents, supplies and equipment, technical and scientific performance monitoring, regulatory and compliance monitoring for issues that would impact accreditation, ensuring appropriate escalation to associate directors/director.


Employee engagement and development is vital to work force sustainability, as Manager, Cell Processing you will ensure that effective collaboration, mentoring and monitoring of supervisors at all locations is current and comprehensive.

Staff engagement of all cell processing staff is imperative with strong performance management, goal setting and development.

As Manager, Cell Processing you will need to be inspirational and visionary in leading collaboration between sites and an expert team in a fast-paced environment.


Formula for success

  • Leveraging your management skills and your proven ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders you will develop, direct, implement and manage cell processing activities and operations plans at a national level ensuring all activities are collaborative, effective and complaint with all applicable quality, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Drawing on your superior organizational, analytical, and effective problemsolving skills you will develop, manage, monitor, and identify improvement opportunities of cell processing operations to ensure efficient and compliant Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP) and validation requirements.
  • Utilizing your effective leadership and interpersonal skills you will provide coaching and thorough communication to manage and mentor supervisors and lead the team to ensure all activities are aligned with performance measures, corporate goals and objectives, in compliance with collective agreements, policies and procedures and within the approved budget.
