About the Role


The Compensation Specialist is responsible for supporting the Director, Total Rewards & HR Operations and the Senior Compensation Specialist for all compensation programs, including but not limited to annual merit and short term and long term incentive processes, job evaluation and market pricing and analysis, and pay equity analysis.

You will provide analysis and administrative support by extracting HR data from Workday and creating reports, costing models and summary tables in order to support informed decision making.

You will assist in the design and rollout of new compensation, benefits and pension programs, and Workday module and data conversions.


What You'll Be Doing

  • Contribute to the development and administration of Total Rewards programs, policies and practices for base salary and incentive plans.
  • Support and coordinate compensation and benefit program management.
  • Track, calculate and/or process all total rewards related programs such as Merit increases, STIP and LTIP both manually and through Workday.
  • Create quantitative and qualitative analyses on current and proposed total rewards programs including "whatif" scenarios by creating costing models to illustrate financial impact in supporting recommendations for management/executive review.
  • Assist in the preparation of Board materials.
  • Provide support to the Director, Total Rewards & HR Operations in the development of compensation communications, training, and briefing materials.
  • Participate in a variety of compensation and benefits surveys and provide an analysis of results for purposes of program changes or salary range structure as an example.
  • Ensure compliance of programs and associated systems while providing regular as well as adhoc reporting.
  • Evaluate jobs using established evaluation systems, determine grade level and prepare appropriate records in the system while ensuring Pay Equity, Audit and Legislative compliance.
  • Liaise with and educate the HRBP team regarding job analysis, role profile review and market analysis recommendations.
  • Assist with the annual Pay Equity analysis and make recommendations on legislative compliance.
  • Administration of Workday's Human Capital Management and Advanced Compensation modules e.g. job profiles, grade and salary range tables, and participate in the biannual testing of Workday system releases.
  • Collaborate with team members and provide support to business partners to recommend changes to aspects of current programs, policies and procedures to ensure programs are market competitive, internally equitable and cost effective.
  • Research best practices and manages the development of related policies as well as maintains relevant guidelines and procedures.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and external vendors such as consultants, insurance companies, and government agencies for information, market trends and problem solving to provide solutions on unique/precedent setting issues.

About You

  • You have a College Diploma or Bachelor's degree with a focus on Human Resources Management.
  • You have 5+ years' experience in a Human Resources capacity with a focus on Compensation administration.
  • Compensation design, survey analysis, market pricing and job evaluation experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical ability with comfort around numerical and confidential data and information.
  • Strong communicator and team player with the ability to collaborate and consult with and influence stakeholders both internal as well as external to the department and organization.
  • Working knowledge of Pay Equity legislation and administration.
  • Working towards the Canadian Compensation Professional (CCP) and/or CHRP preferred.
  • Workday experience preferred, including a working knowledge in Workday's Human Capital Management and Advanced Compensation modules and general knowledge of associated set ups e.g. job profiles, grade and salary range tables. Workday report writing experience also an asset.
  • Selfstarter with the ability to shift gears and/or change focus as priorities change.
  • Keen attention to detail with a strong aptitude for checking and reviewing large data sets for errors, as well as handling other tasks that may be administrative in nature.
