Position Summary


The Social Medicine Program is seeking an _Evaluation Specialist _who will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of program evaluation.

In addition, the _Evaluation Specialist _will work with an oversight committee to develop research processes using their design and statistical expertise.

Critical thinking and deductive reasoning are essential, as is the ability to work independently.


Responsibilities include:
- i) Planning Stage - help design and evaluate new projects; provide sample size calculations; assess feasibility of proposed work; plan and analyze pilot data; Support senior level decision-making by developing evaluation reports in a variety of formats; tailored to a range of stakeholders
- ii) Project Management - develop project plans to manage evaluation projects. Supports the development of any new program project plans to ensure all plans include an evaluation component

iii) Conduct focus groups, surveys and interviews, data collection and analysis ensuring data are reliable and valid
- iv) Statistical Analysis - analyze data from Social Medicine projects; advise staff in data analysis; communicate results verbally or in written report to leadership
- v) Process - prepare written papers/reports; ensure that methods and results are presented correctly; critically appraise written material; produce graphics; prepare manuscripts for publication
- vi) Results based planning - prepare written proposals utilizing current evaluation results and statistical data to further investments in Social Medicine and Population Health

vii) Perform additional related duties to ensure project deliverables are met, collaborating closely with Implementation Lead(s)


The Evaluation Specialist must also have a broad and current knowledge of the social determinants of health, population health, and social medicine, as well as experience working in collaboration with UHN programs and key partners, including community organizations.


Key Responsibilities

Leads evaluation project plans

  • Designs and implements evaluation plans
  • Develop methodologies and evaluation tools to measure program process, outcome, impact, cost/benefit and effectiveness
  • Utilize both quantitative and qualitative methods in evaluation or research studies (e.g. planning and conducting focus groups, interviews or surveys; analysis of administrative or other quantitative data)
  • Conducts statistical analysis to support evaluation plans including the following:
  • Examines data for odd values and distributions
  • Develops initial plan of analysis
  • Performs analysis, revising plan based on results found
  • Interprets results
  • Works closely with Implementation Lead(s) to ensure projects meet targeted and measurable outcomes
  • Communicates results to senior team to guide further evaluation development

  • Critically appraises draft reports corrects errors; suggests revisions
  • Checks reports and, manuscripts for consistency, format, references
  • Conducts additional analysis of manuscripts or reports as requested
