    A Day In The Life

    In this role you will assist lawyers in our Private Client Services Group who work primarily with owner-managed businesses, trusts and estates with various mandates by offering specialized technical legal expertise in the corporate/commercial area. Key duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Dealing with incorporations, including pre- and post-incorporation documentation and extra-provincial registrations across Canada
  • Maintaining corporate records
  • Determining and drafting various corporate legal documents related to reorganizations, acquisitions, mergers, amalgamations, amendments, revivals, dissolutions, name changes and continuations
  • Reviewing agreements
  • Complete and summarize due diligence searches
  • Minute book reviews
  • Organize and complete closing documentation and closing books
  • Complete required provincial or federal corporate filings
  • Communicate directly with clients on the direction of lawyers
  • Potentially, some real estate
  • Other related tasks or responsibilities
  • The paralegal will handle files from beginning to completion, working with minimal supervision.

    Must Haves

  • Computer literacy with good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (particularly Word and Excel)
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and ability to exercise independent judgement
  • Familiarity with the corporate records database "ALF"
  • Familiarity with incorporations, annual records maintenance and other standard corporate transactions such as dividends and redemptions under the BC Business Corporations Act
  • Ability to manage many files at once
  • Drafting capabilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines

    Compensation

    The typical salary range for this position is $70,000 - $110,000 annually; the base pay offered is based on location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, internal and market equity.
