Description

Under the direction of the Quality Assurance Manager, the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible to carry out Food Safety and Quality Assurance and Regulatory functions at Wedlock Paper Converters Ltd to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements applicable to the company's operations.


The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Specialist will provide expertise and guidance in matters of Food Safety and Quality to Wedlock employees, contractors, and suppliers, to support the achievement of company objectives.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development and maintenance of an effective Quality Management & Food Safety System that incorporates Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and risk management to ensure all regulated functions are performed and documented according to written procedures by appropriately trained and qualified personnel using suitable materials, and equipment.
  • Responsible for administration and approval of manufacturing specifications, product technical data sheet for customers, raw material specification and technical data sheets, raw material certificate of analysis (COA/COC) and SDS. Ensure SDS are kept up to date.
  • Maintain an awareness of food safety and regulatory requirements and changes affecting the facility, products, and operations. Provide appropriate notice and direction to company personnel on required actions to remain in compliance.
  • Provide support to employees in all matters related to food safety and quality. Promote awareness (GMPs, food defence, foreign material control, etc.) through the administration of formal training, and through daytoday interactions and collaborative problem solving.
  • Upload suppliers' quality and food safety information on customers' platforms.
  • Part of the Recall team and coordinates traceability exercises
  • Compiles data, monitor, and communicate quality and food safety Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to food safety team and management.
  • Coordinate and support the development and maintenance of prerequisite and Food Safety Plans/Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP)
  • Ensure that customer complaints, concerns and/or inquiries receive adequate responses in a timely fashion.
  • Help conducts root cause analysis for defects, nonconformities, or other quality failures.
  • Ensure that documents are created, compiled, and stored such that they form complete records, they are traceable to their source, their integrity is maintained, and they are readily retrievable whether in paper or electronic form.
  • Conduct external audits for food safety and quality standards, regulations, and customer requirements and follow up corrective actions.
  • Coordinate, maintain, and communicate NCR (Nonconformance reporting) and CCA (Customer Complaint & Adjustment). Escalate issues to upper management for serious issues or when required to achieve resolution.
  • Conduct and coordinate internal audits against customer and regulated standards. This includes receipt and inspection of materials, components and finished product, review of records, followup to resolve discrepancies, auditing of facilities and procedures when required, participation in meetings, internal and external correspondence as required.
  • Act as a point of contact for Quality & Compliance. Maintain correspondence with Regulatory Agencies, suppliers, and service providers regarding matters of quality and compliance. Participate in inspections and audits of the facility, systems and records, and coordinate responses to observations.
  • Recommends required lab equipment and is involved in the setup and implementation. This includes equipment related to product development, quality testing in the lab and quality testing by operating personnel on the production floor.
  • To maintain lab equipment certification needs.
  • Maintain an awareness of food safety and quality trends and industry best practices.
  • Track Quality measures and prepare periodic summaries to trend both internal and supplier performance.
  • Oversee and maintain pest control services and review trends.
  • Assist with Regulatory duties as opportunity and workload demands.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of a BSc degree
  • 3+ years of QA/QC and Food Safety experience
  • Quality auditing experience in food industry
  • 2+ years of experience in batch review and release
  • Knowledge of SFI, GMP, AIB, and GFSI (SQFI) certifications
  • Experience in dealing with multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word & Power point)

Salary:
$60,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
