Description

The Research and Innovation at The University of Winnipeg is responsible for advancing the research enterprise of the University by obtaining, allocating, and administrating research grants, negotiating research contracts, and ensuring compliance to national and international standards in human and animal ethics certification.


Responsibilities:


  • Manages the CIHR and health sciences award processes on campus.
  • Meets with new and existing faculty members to provide individual advice on their research program and funding opportunities available.
  • Maintains contact with other Research Office program officers to ensure that the university is aware of current funding opportunities, quota, and changes to policies, and is adhering to funding agency guidelines and regulations.
  • Supports the Program Officer, Research Implementation and Ethics related to healthbased ethics processes.
  • Creates and analyses annual health sciences research related grant statistics, along with a fiveyear trend, to assist with writing reports. Prepares adhoc reports upon request.
  • Monitors and assesses external non tricouncil opportunities for healthrelated funding.
  • Organizes and administers activities related to knowledge translation, knowledge mobilization, and research impact for UWinnipeg staff and faculty.
  • Develops training for researchers related to knowledge translation and mobilization.
  • Works with the Lead Program Officer, VPRI, and AVPRI to plan, formulate, develop, and implement best practices, policies, and procedures related to strategies of research assessment and impact of UWinnipeg researchers.
  • Manages the Yaffle platform in collaboration with the Lead Program Officer.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field of specialization and University and government policies, practices and regulations.
  • Updates the Knowledge Mobilization Hub on the UWinnipeg website.
  • Coordinates and delivers workshops for faculty, in conjunction with faculty/staff representatives, or with external agencies.
  • Maintains internal database of research opportunities and performs electronic investigations in online research databases to become familiar with funding opportunities and research programs.
  • Communicates funding sources and opportunities to faculty to increase the level of research funding on campus.
  • Maintains frequent contact with government program officers (federal, provincial), research foundation and institutes staff, and other university research officers to ensure awareness of current funding opportunities and changes to policies, and that the University is adhering to funding agency guidelines and policies.
  • Attends meetings of and liaises with Research Impact Canada on all topics related to knowledge mobilization, translation, and research impact.

Qualifications:


  • Master's Degree Required, preferably within the natural sciences or health fields.
  • Minimum 4 years of directly related experience.
  • Experience working in postsecondary environment an asset.
  • Experience in research grant writing.
  • Experience in largescale research project and infrastructure management.
  • Experience in organizing and managing academic workshops and events.
  • Experience in drafting and maintaining multiple budgets accurately.
  • Experience with accounts payable.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize competing demands, and work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to details.
  • Ability to show initiative and work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to details.
  • Ability to make independent judgements within area and University policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various levels of internal and external contacts as they relate to the prograM/Function.
  • Demonstrated computer and website maintenance skills (Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Cascade or other content management systems). Experience with the Canadian Convergence portal and ResearchNet portal would be an asset.
  • Ability to collect and synthesize relevant resources.
  • Ability to be flexible and work as part of a team and within the University overall.
  • Evidence of being tactful and demonstrating the ability to work with faculty members and community partners.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse groups.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

Condition(s) of Employment:


  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

The salary range for this position will be from $57,930.60 to $80,316.60** annually.
