    The Opportunity:

    We are seeking an English and Individuals and Societies (I&S) Teacher to work in our Senior and Middle School on a part-time (80%), permanent basis.,. In a community where social-emotional learning and diversity, equity and inclusion are key priorities, the successful candidate demonstrates empathy, creativity, strong communication skills and the ability to build a caring rapport with students and colleagues. The successful candidate will join both the English Department and the Individuals and Societies Department and report to the Instructional Leader for the respective departments.

    Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Using a lens of social-emotional learning, create a class environment that inspires and supports learning and personal growth;
  • Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a solid foundation for further education in accordance with each students ability;
  • Fosters a love of language and literature in young people;
  • Establish positive relationships with parents, faculty and other staff members;
  • Ensure the written, taught and assessed curriculum is in line with the IB and Ministry of Education curriculum ensuring differentiation;
  • Develop culturally relevant, inclusive and responsive English and I&S curriculums for diverse learners;
  • Develop course outlines, unit plans, lesson plans ensuring integration of all aspects of the IB Middle Years Program and Diploma Program curricula, with a focus on inquiry based learning;
  • Update all necessary records accurately as required by the Ministry, IBO and school guidelines;
  • Communicate information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress including formally through report cards and parent-teacher meetings;
  • Keep up-to-date and incorporate best practices in subject area and approaches to teaching and learning through professional reading, participating in workshops and other professional development opportunities;
  • Participate actively in faculty and department/division meetings and meet regularly with all course teams to plan, review and update the written curriculum;
  • Assume responsibility for and participate in co-curricular activities and supervision duties.
  • Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution with a specialist in English, and Geography or History;
  • Ontario College of Teachers certification or equivalent degree with I/S qualifications in English and Geography or History;
  • Minimum three years' teaching experience preferred;
  • Experience in and knowledge of IB is a strong asset;
  • Strong curriculum development skills and assessment practices that incorporate strategies relevant to the age and stage assessment practices;
  • A relational educator who incorporates Social-Emotional Learning and emotional coaching strategies in their practice;
  • Experience and/or commitment to incorporating DEI principles into curriculum development and teaching practice;
  • Knowledge of relevant technology and able to work in a laptop and online environment;
  • Adept at leveraging technology to deliver education program and correspond with students, parents, colleagues and the community at large;
