Financial Analyst

Job Summary
The Financial Analyst is responsible for performing financial accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions for the Societies.

The individual must maintain the integrity of the accounting procedures and systems through constant maintenance, development and implementation of improvements to enhance the value added to the Societies.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Financial Accounting:


  • Prepare journal entries as required to update accounts
  • Maintaining capital asset module and record depreciation and amortization expenses
  • Review revenue and expense transactions recorded in cash, AR and AP
  • Investigate any discrepancies thoroughly that are identified ensuring proper corrective actions are taken to resolve these discrepancies
  • Reconcile and record expenses for corporate credit cards and employee expenses
  • Reconcile, review and verify expenses for payroll reimbursement
  • Support interim and yearend audit preparation
  • Sales tax rebate reconciliation monthly

Accounts Payable:


  • Create new vendor files with appropriate banking information
  • Prepare electronic transfer files.
  • Prepare and print cheques as required.
  • Monitor Accounts Payable aging for unpaid transactions
  • Back up for Payment Services Accountant

Accounts Receivable:


  • Issue invoices for various programs and charges to clients and agencies
  • Monitor and provide collections report for AR aging
  • Intercompany billing for trilevel, including reconciliation of shared expenses
  • Reconciling intercompany balances

System Administration:


  • Administration of corporate credit card program
  • Participate in Sage Intacct and other software

Back-Up:


  • Occasional backup to other team members in accounts payable, accounts receivable and reception

Job Qualifications

Education:


  • University degree or equivalent experience
  • Working towards a CPA designation or already acquired a CPA designation an asset

Experience:


  • Minimum 3 years' financial analyst/accounting experience
  • Experience in a multilevel, not for profit organization is an asset
  • Combination of experience and formal education will be considered

Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:

  • Strong technical skills in financial and accounting areas of practice, including GAAP
  • Proven experience of accounting processes, procedures, controls and reporting including management of accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledgers
  • Understanding of accounting principles and concepts, and adept at utilization of financial and accounting systems
  • Ability to work within a 'handson' accounting environment
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizing skills with close attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to use discretion, judgment and tact in handling sensitive or confidential information or situations
  • Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills
  • Expert knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and experience with accounting software. e.g., Sage Intacct
  • Experience in Raiser's Edge is an asset
  • Maturity and experience managing multiple priorities
  • Well organized and able to work independently and utilize sound judgement to perform all assigned duties with mínimal supervision
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, clients and community agencies
  • Experience working independently as well as within a team environment
  • Excellent client service skills. Able to handle high volumes and multiple priorities in a professional, courteous manner while meeting strict deadlines
