Banquet Server

Reports to:
Director of Catering, Catering Coordinator, Banquet Captain


Position Purpose:

Delivers efficient, courteous and professional service to guests of all food and beverage items in accordance with Sheraton Standards


Authority:


Day-to-Day Operations:


  • Greet guests with a friendly smile
  • Be attentive to guest needs
  • Set up tables with table linens, silverwares, glassware, china wares and centerpieces
  • Preparing the appropriate miseenplace
  • Attend daily briefings before events to learn function expectations
  • Serving food and beverages in banquet rooms
  • Clearing tables and separating dishware
  • Serve coffee breaks
  • Refresh meeting rooms during the day
  • Prepare and serve banquet bars
  • Handling, balancing and depositing cash
  • All other duties as assigned by Management

Health and Safety:

Under the OHSA, Banquet Servers are required to ensure that:

  • Employees work in the manner and with the protective devices, measure and procedures required.
  • Employees use or wear the equipment, PPE or clothing required by the Sheraton Ottawa Hotel.
  • Employees are advised of the existence of any potential or actual danger to their well being of which the supervisor is aware.
  • Where prescribed, employees are provided with written instructions as to the measures and procedures to be taken for their protection.
  • Every reasonable precaution is taken for the protection of the employee and guest.


On a daily basis, Banquet Servers are to reinforce and demonstrate a positive 'Health & Safety' attitude and working climate.

All safety rules and procedures must be upheld and enforced up to and including disciplinary action by the Manager or commending employees for exemplary health and safety practices.

Banquet Servers are expected to report, investigate and properly document all incidents and injuries to employees and guests, as well as any property damage or loss of process as a result of the incident.


Physical Demands for this position:


  • Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems.
  • Some work tasks may be performed off property at a 3rd party location
  • Must be able to stand and exert wellpaced mobility for up to 8 hours in length.
  • Must be able to exert wellpaced ability in limited space.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks.
  • Must be able to exert wellpaced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously.
  • Must be able to lift trays of food or food items weighing up to 30 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. frequently.
All lifting will be within reason. The employer will make every effort to ensure that the associate is protected from injury (ex. PPE).

  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment

Education:

High School Graduate or equivalent required.
Hospitality/Tourism/Business degree would be considered an asset.

Part-time hours: 24 per week
