Vancouver Convention Centre's, Venue Operations is hiring an Operations Lead (Overnight) position within our Guest Services Operations Centre (GSOC).

Reporting to the Manager, Public Safety, the Operations Lead works closely with Operations Managers to support the oversight of the GSOC department, a high-volume, 24/7/365, operations centre.


The Operations Lead will be responsible for executing operational and event delivery priorities such as operational levels, access control, signage, deliveries, shipping & receiving, public safety, and security as well as playing a critical role in emergency response and ensuring deployment of safety and security resources.

This position operates on a compressed work week of four days.


Shifts:
Wednesday to Saturday & Sunday to Wednesday


Hours: 9-hour shifts hours to 0800 hours


WHAT YOU WILL DO:


  • Oversee the safety & security of the building and surrounding area, including monitoring any suspicious or forbidden activities and deploying security and/or VPD as required.
  • Provide support to the Operations Manager in executing facility and event related activations.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance regarding access control, signage, deliveries, shipping & receiving, public safety, and security.
  • Investigate incidents, write subsequent reports, and distribute reports accordingly.
  • Play a critical role as Site Liaison in emergency response as support to the Incident Commander during emergency response including acting in a backup capacity if required.
  • Ensure operational levels are set including signage, access, lighting, elevators & escalators.
  • Support the management of the security provider, proving leadership to staff in the absence of security management and auditing and reporting on deployments to ensure missed positions are covered and documented accordingly.
  • Manage delivery system including responding to inquiries, dispatching resources to retrieve packages, ensuring entry guidelines are followed, and ensuring items are logged.
  • Manage east & west event cages, ensuring categorizing and tracking protocols are in place and that event pickups are completed.
  • Conduct postevent inspections as moveouts take place, including ensuring spaces are clear and ready for the next event and following up on event leftovers or conversion issues.
  • Ensure back of house areas are kept clear, including coordinating with suppliers to have items removed from corridors.
  • Ensure enforcement of safety regulations including emergency exiting pathways, implementing safety zones, enforcing maximum capacities, use of PPE, age regulations, and ensuring that clients & suppliers are familiar with the safety, security, and emergency measures.
  • Monitor building integrity and condition including damage to fit and finish, operation of doors and hardware, exterior surface damage, and pest infestations and reporting via Facility Services Request.
  • Enforce onsite parking regulations for clients, suppliers & staff.
  • Maintain a detailed and published log of activities during each shift.
  • Manage the highvalue lost and found items stored in the GSOC safe.
  • Participate in department and pre & post event planning meetings as required.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:


  • Postsecondary certificate or diploma in security and/or event operations is preferred.
  • Valid BC Security Worker License with a Security Guard license type is an asset.
  • Completion of Incident Command Levels 100 and 200 or equivalent is an asset.
  • 35 years of event industry, venue operations, public safety and emergency response is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of the event industry, venue operations, and procedures across multiple departments and buildings at VCC.
  • Good understanding of security operations including CCTV, Access Control and Life Safety Systems.
  • Comfortable using a broad range of communications styles; able to choose appropriate, effective ways to communicate to different audiences in diverse situations.
  • Maintain emotional composure while multitasking during stressful situations.
  • Strong organizational and problemsolving skills; demonstrated ability to prioritize conflicting requirements in a timely manner.
