Role:

The Ministry of Skilled Trades and Professions has an exciting opportunity and is looking for a
Recognition and Retention Support Coordinator to join our team


Reporting to the Manager and collaborates with Board Activities team members to provide and evolve services to meet the needs of the Alberta Board of Skilled Trades and industry advisory bodies.

This position functions within the parameters of applicable Government and Ministry legislation, regulations, and policies.


You will lead in complex event project management to ensure that the Board achieves its strategic goals and increases the profile of the trades in Alberta.

This work includes events and workshops involving staff, industry advisory members and stakeholder associations.


In your role as a Recognition And Retention Support Coordinator, you will be responsible to:

  • Supporting the work of the Alberta Board of

Skilled Trades:
organizing meetings, preparing meeting materials, supporting the Board and its standing committees, providing support to Board initiatives

  • Oversee the process and preparation of required documentation for the disclosure of Board compensation.
  • Lead/coordinate the development and management of Board operational/work plans, as required.
  • Coordinate the AIT family of scholarships programs and awards that fall within the suite of retention supports and programs.
  • Build and manage relationships with scholarships donors including drafting and updating donor information sheets, maintaining scholarship criteria and communicating results of annual scholarship selection.
  • Coordinate processes for the nomination and selection of Top Employer, Top Apprentice, Top Instructor, Top Mentor and Chairman's Award of Excellence awards.
  • Identify and develop recommendation options for supports that lead to increasing apprenticeship program completion rates across all trades and occupations in Alberta.
  • Use research on leading best practices related to apprenticeship retention to suggest program enhancements.
  • Lead the implementation of retention supports and programs and supports throughout the province.
  • Organize and plan complex events that ensure that increase the profile of the trades in Alberta and assist the industry advisory bodies to achieve their strategic goals.
  • Support the AIT management in achieving the mandate and goals of the division and branch.
  • Develop briefing materials and responses to Action Requests and provide inputs to unit operational planning and reporting.

Qualifications:


Minimum requirements:

University graduation in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.


Equivalency:

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

  • Strong writing skills to develop significant briefing materials, conduct research and analysis.

  • Experience/the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple requests, competing priorities and to meet tight timelines
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member and to anticipate and respond to client needs.
