Summary of Duties

Reporting to the Golf Pro Manager, the Assistant Golf Professional is responsible for the Golf Program including scheduling and promotion of tournaments to members and the public, the Pro Shop including scheduling staff and purchasing merchandise and supervision of staff at both City of London golf courses.

This position works as part of a team in a public facing fast paced golf environment providing a high-quality golf experience while providing excellent customer service to City of London patrons.


Work Performed

  • Provide daily supervision, direction, and support to on site staff including outside services staff, food services staff, building attendants and cashiers.
  • Train, coach, mentor and support new and returning staff.
  • Collect green, cart, membership, and merchandise fees.
  • Assist with pro shop scheduling to always ensure adequate staffing.
  • Assist with league, tournament and event preparation including scoring and prizes.
  • Be aware of and follow emergency procedures regarding first aid, fire, lightning, tornados, bomb threats and kidnapping.
  • Role model excellent customer service and a positive and professional attitude for staff and assist with responding to any guest or staff concerns.
  • Complete all required paperwork and reports as outlined by Supervisor including injury reports, property damage, and theft.
  • Merchandise product and ensure the Pro Shop and immediate grounds are always clean, safe, and secure. Report any dangerous situations or damage to the Manager, Golf Pro.
  • Schedule tournaments and events and communicate with other golf course staff including Building Attendants, Greenskeeper and Food and Beverage Coordinator.
  • Advertise and communicate with the members and visitors to promote club tournaments and leagues.
  • Be available to teach lessons.
  • Demonstrate commitment to antiracism, antioppression, and human rights through practices and interactions with stakeholders, employees and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment.
  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience in a customer service environment with a minimum of two years' experience in a supervisory role.
  • Professional Golfers' Association of Canada membership in good standing.
  • Experience in golf club repair is an asset.
  • Cash handling and balancing experience.
  • Standard First Aid
  • Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
  • Smart Serve Certificate
  • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office including word and excel, Point of Sale and Perfect Mind.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of comfort in fast paced public facing environments.
  • Second language is an asset (please indicate on resume).
  • Knowledge of Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) rules required to settle rule disputes in matches and tournaments.
