The Seabird Island Band is a multi-faceted First Nations Band that includes government, business, service, and nonprofit services.

We work as an integrated team to improve the health, education, and economic opportunities for First Nations people to create thriving First Nations families and communities.


Position Summary:


The Better at Home Program is designed to provide support to community members who need additional assistance to continue to reside at home in the community.

The Labourer plays a key role in the Better at Home Program, providing the leg work to support the clients.

Labourer can expect to perform a very wide variety of tasks to support a wide variety of clients.

Assigned responsibilities will include indoor and outdoor activities, including working in high and low temperatures, and inclement weather (rain, snow etc.).

Successful Better at Home Labourer should prepare to work long physically demanding hours, will be required to provide their own clothing appropriate to the day's tasks and weather, and may be asked to provide their own personal safety equipment.

Qualifications/Requirements:


  • Must be interested in providing a high level of customer service to elders or home bound clients in a supportive and nonjudgmental manner. Ability to be accessible, accountable and
- responsive to community members

  • Must be highly reliable and able to work independently.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and to work under pressure.
  • High professional and ethical standards.
  • Physically fit and able to perform all the physical requirements of the position.
  • Willingness to work in a variety of inclement weather conditions.
  • Excellent active listening and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to adhere to Oath of Confidentiality and Seabird Island Band Policies and Procedures.
  • Knowledge, respect and understanding of Stó:lō culture, traditions and language is considered an asset. An understanding of the history of trauma and current conditions facing First Nations
- populations is also considered an asset.

  • Valid BC Driver's License, Class
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Provide support to community elders, home bound adults, and other clients as assigned.
  • Operate hand tools, small power tools, and landscaping tools.
  • Clean, organize, and perform minor maintenance to the interior of client homes.
  • Complete domestic tasks that are essential to the successful functioning of a healthy home (laundry, dishes, vacuuming etc.).
  • Perform regular, seasonal, or large scale landscaping to the exterior of client homes.
  • Mow grass, pull weeds, power wash, and other related or similar tasks.
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor, Manager, Director, or the CAO.
