Overview:


The Marketing Business Unit (MBU) provides strategic direction and commercial execution in areas involving marketing, market development, new ventures/opportunities and acquisitions.

In supporting the long-term strategy and vision, the MBU looks across commodity value chains. Primary commodities include natural gas, ethane, propane, butane, condensate, crude oil and electricity. The MBU optimizes capacity and margins using our transportation, processing and logistics capabilities. We strive to understand ever-changing market dynamics.


Responsibilities:


Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Transacting

  • Execute transactions that offset and manage price risks, in careful collaboration with physical traders;
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with physical trading book owners, leaders, middle and back office;
  • Manage strong relationships with exchanges, clearing agents, brokers, OTC counterparties and regulators;
  • Assess the most effective parties to transact with; and
  • Enter into positions and effectively schedule and execute the appropriate unwinding of the positions to achieve the desired risk management strategy.

Market Analysis and Data Management

  • Understand Pembina's commodity trading exposures;
  • Passionately study market fundamentals, trends and important themes;
  • Distill trends and important implications from complex data sets;
  • Disciplined at managing and warehousing critical data, employing best practices;
  • Understand the effectiveness of the instruments you are trading to offset the price risk inherent in the underlying physical business;
  • Prepare recommendations and develop strategies that can add value and mitigate risks;
  • Always understand your book's position and how it offsets or complements each physical trade book;
  • Work collaboratively with Market Fundamentals Team to provide market views and hedge recommendations in support of the commodity teams and business units; and
  • Prepare presentations that clearly communicate market fundamentals and how they will impact Pembina.

Risk Management and Compliance

  • Work closely with the project team that is implementing a new deal capture tool with a golive target of 2023;
  • Ensure market exposures are being correctly identified, captured and managed;
  • Ensure trades are immediately captured correctly in corporate systems of record;
  • Communicate effectively with middle and back office;
  • Understand and comply with approved strategies, boundaries and procedures;
  • Support cross training and back up support so there is institutional coverage for your responsibilities; and
  • Participate in a diverse and inclusive work environment.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum 5+ years of related experience with a focus on both upstream and downstream energy markets, including NGL's, oil, natural gas and electricity;
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following: Economics, Business Administration, Finance or Marketing may be an asset;
  • Experience in trading financial instruments on commodity exchanges (futures, swaps, options) to optimize and manage price risks;
  • Track record of success in trading and optimization roles with clear results against deliverables;
  • Track record initiating, developing and implementing new profitable term structured business opportunities, identifying market imperfections and creating lasting competitive advantages;
  • Excellent Excel modeling skills;
  • Strong understanding of data management best practices;
  • Propensity for affirmative teamwork and collaboration, including a broad list of positive references;
  • Ability to model and evaluate the intrinsic and extrinsic value of physical assets;
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Comfortable dealing with any level of the organization;
  • A network of industry contracts and the ability to recommend appropriate counterparties;
  • Change agility and the ability to embrace, facilitate or lead change;
  • Track record of translating business strategy into action; and
  • Is a selfstarter with a strong bias for action with a sense of urgency and high energy.
