Outreach Worker

35 hours per week - $25 per hour


The Lower Mainland Purpose Society in partnership with the City of New Westminster, New Westminster Police Department, and Public Safety Canada is currently in search of a
Permanent Full-Time Youth Outreach Worker for the newly developed New Westminster Youth Hub through the Building Safer Communities Fund.


This program is aimed at supporting youth who may be involved or at-risk of being involved in gang or gun related activities in the community through prevention and intervention strategies.

This will be accomplished by addressing the source of youth violence, developing safe spaces, and empowering young people and the community to create and implement solutions while maintaining public safety.


JOB DESCRIPTION:


  • Work from a personcentered, strengthsbased approach to assess strengths and needs of youth and families.
  • Provide onetoone support and outreach of youth who have multiple risk factors including: mental health, addictions, and complex behaviors such as FASD and/or developmental delays and/or are involved in highrisk activities (e.g. sexual exploitation, gun and gang activity, or street involvement,).
  • Offer goalfocused prevention and intervention through assessing client needs and developing service plans to assist youth/family achieve objectives.
  • Provide support and education related to gun and gang activity to family/caregiver where required.
  • Research and deliver informative presentations in the community related to gun and gang activity.
  • Provide life skills training in both individual and group settings.
  • Maintain timely and accurate reports and file documentation.
  • Work in a collaborative practice model with community agencies and organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A Bachelor of Arts in the social sciences or human services or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in the field of youth and family services.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit or government agency.
  • Knowledge of working with mental health and complex developmental behavioral conditions.
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal, counselling, oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of gang and gun violence and experience working with youth involved in such activities.
  • Knowledge of collaborative practice and working effectively with a variety of community partners.
  • Exceptional report writing skills.
  • Class 5 license and vehicle required; Class 4 or willingness to get an asset.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours; including evenings.
  • First Aid certification required.
