  • The role includes classroom/zoom facilitation, support of virtual & oncampus learning, and supervision of students in workplace settings.

Your role as a casual instructor at Saskatchewan Polytechnic will be supported through instructional materials and on-going employer provided training.

This may include a requisite faculty certificate program depending on your employment status in future positions. This initiative will develop our instructors professionally while ensuring a high quality learning experience for all Saskatchewan Polytechnic students.

  • Prepare reports for and maintain positive communication with sponsoring agencies.
  • Administer appropriate & relevant career and skills assessments; interpret results and debrief learners individually and in group settings.
  • Plan, develop and deliver classroom and workplace instruction as assigned, which will facilitate the learning of work related skills. This may include essential skills development, employment preparation, job search and personal management skills.
  • Manage an adult centered learning environment, establish rapport, encourage aspirations and facilitate problem solving in a nonthreatening environment.
  • Evaluate and report on students' progress in essential skills, labour market preparation and work experience courses, as assigned.
  • Assist trainees with the support and counseling necessary to assist them in making appropriate career decisions.
  • Maintain current labour market information and contact with employers, including management of database and dashboard data.
  • Promote program, students workplace partnerships to business, industry, public sector and community based organizations
  • Work individually with students to help them select and secure work placements appropriate to their interests, skills and career/occupational choices.
  • Liaise with employers to facilitate the placement of students at the workplace; assist with the development of training plans for the workplace.
  • Visit students at workplaces, working with supervisors to facilitate the evaluation of students' performance; provide feedback and coaching to students and workplace supervisors.
  • Complete and maintain student record forms; ensure a system for the efficient utilization of instructional materials and resources.
  • Plan schedules, speakers and other activities relevant to delivering program.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)

  • Two years recent and relevant experience working with adults in career transition.
  • Experience and training in group facilitation, teaching, and human resource development.
  • Qualified and experienced in the use of career and skills assessment tools, including but not limited to the Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and involvement with local labour market including business, government and community based organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with learners and employers from diverse backgrounds, including indigenous peoples, newcomers to Canada, and people with disabilities.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, teamwork and personal management skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member and foster teamwork.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
