Opportunity

  • Pacific Community Resources Society seeks a parttime Key Worker specializing in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder/Complex Developmental Behavioural Conditions (FASD/CDBC). The Key Worker and Parent Support Program supports Surreybased families with youth aged 12 to 18 with confirmed or suspected FASD/CDBC. Program staff provide participants with education and information specific to the needs of the child and family and offer emotional and practical support. Key Workers strive to empower the family to become their own best advocates for their child. The Key Worker provides regular parent/caregiver support groups and communitybased training on FASD/CDBC. Understanding Indigenous Cultural Safety, family and community systems, family counselling and advocacy skills are essential. Flexible Hours may be required to accommodate family support needs and group meetings.

Qualifications

  • Key Workers will possess a bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology, Education (Special Education) or Nursing from a postsecondary institution of recognized standing and five years related experience, or equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  • Excellent knowledge of/experience with FASD, Community services and public presentation.
  • Sound knowledge of/experience with case management, family counselling and support theories
  • Must be registered with the B.C. College of Social Workers or the appropriate registering body.
  • Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector
  • Valid BC driver's license with business insurance use
  • Use of own vehicle (mileage is paid)
  • Driver's abstract must be submitted

Additional Assets

  • Experience working in social services and group facilitation
  • Ability to connect with youth and excellent communication skills
  • Community development skills and experience
