About the Role:


The Sanitation & Janitorial Team Leader reports to the Quality Assurance Team Leader and is responsible for managing, directing, and building a strong Sanitation team & Janitorial team, and is responsible for the overall cleanliness of the premises inside and the grounds outside the building.

The Sanitation & Janitorial Team Leader provides leadership, direction and coaching to the team. They also assist with the sanitation of different areas and ensure that production areas are fully stocked with supplies.

The Sanitation & Janitorial Team Leader will ensure all work performed adheres to all organizational Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), WHMIS, and safety standards.

This is a physical labour-intensive position requiring individuals to perform repetitive tasks and stand for long periods of time.

The primary duties of the role are as follows:
Working alongside and assisting in and coordinating training in the following areas:

  • New employee training
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) and daily/weekly/monthly/janitorial tasks
  • Chemical handling
  • Pressure washer handling
  • Safety orientation and periodic review of safety awareness (including wearing personal protective equipment, lockout tagout procedure when necessary, and WHIMIS)
  • Progressive training of sanitation staff in GMPs and costeffective sanitation techniques and procedures
  • Allergen issues and criteria for allergen prevention program
  • Proper cleaning procedures for surfaces, utensils, cleaning equipment and plant environment. If applicable, equipment, such as dishwasher/washing machine/dryer, (including procedures on protection of all electrical and delicate equipment components prior to cleaning/ensuring adherences to SOPs)
  • Creating and maintaining SOPs in accordance with the QMS in place
  • Completing sanitation tasks according to the sanitation SOPs and frequencies listed on master cleaning schedules
  • Creating, assigning, and followingthrough with sanitation work orders that arise from facility inspections
  • Participating in weekly Quality Assurance meetings reporting on sanitation and cleaning of facility
  • Responsible for performing documented sanitation inspections in order to identify areas requiring cleaning and sanitation, and identifying any areas requiring pest control
  • Responsible for the safety of the facility from a sanitation perspective, and identifying and mitigating unsafe work areas from slips, trips, and falls
  • Working with the Production Team Leaders to allocate available production workers to perform daily cleaning tasks, and provide training and direction to production workers, as needed
  • Responsible to maintain cleanliness of facility through dry and wet cleaning sanitation SOPs and janitorial tasks
  • Providing sanitation support through the cleaning of major spills, ingredients(s), and/or production tools and utensils
  • Ensuring that all staff under your direction are equipped with and are using the proper personal protective equipment as required
  • Performing daily inspection to ensure all sanitation tasks assigned to the team have been completed in accordance with sanitation SOPs and master cleaning schedules are signed
  • Scraping down and washing all equipment as needed must be comfortable using a ladder, working at heights, handling cleaning products, and adhering to SOPs; using appropriate cleaning equipment
  • Collecting all garbage and waste; ensuring that garbage and recycling bins are emptied on a regular basis
  • Ensuring that washrooms, lunchrooms and common areas are cleaned on a regular schedule
