School Age Care Assistant (Child Care Worker)


Full/Part Time:
Part Time, Monday through Friday, 30 hours per week


Regular/Temporary:
September - June (Possibility for work to continue in the Summer and the following school year).


Hours:

Before and after school split shift; 7:15am - 9:15am and 2:00pm to 6:00pm; earlier start times on school early dismissal days; extra hours may be offered during school breaks and Pro D days.


Wage:
Starting wage is $19 per hour for Responsible Adult certification and increases depending on further certifications.


Who We Are:


Parkgate Society's Child & Family Centre and Seymour School Age Care have been chosen by the Province of BC to become $10 a Day ChildCareBC prototype sites.

Thanks to this new designation, plus our existing reputation for quality child care, community demand for our services has greatly increased.

We strive to exceed licensing regulations by having a better than required child/staff ratio and we stay up to date with the newest standards and best practices of early learning.

Our child care centres are equipped with high quality play equipment, including natural play and art materials.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for the constant supervision, safety, and wellbeing of children attending Parkgate Society's school age care program
  • Recognizes and responds to the needs of each child by using developmentally appropriate positive guidance and teaching methods
  • Shares in the responsibility for planning, preparing, and implementing stimulating, ageappropriate activities that encourage children's creativity and learning and promote each child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development aligned with the current BC Early Learning Framework
  • Participates fully and consistently as a team member in caring for the children and in the overall operation of the program and child care centre
  • Establishes and maintains regular communication with team members, other staff, and parents
  • Ensures the program always operates in compliance with all child care licensing standards (with guidance of the program supervisor and child care manager)
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Program Supervisor or Child Care Manager as needed

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Must be at least 19 years old
  • A School Age Care certificate or a 20 Hour Responsible Adult training certificate
  • A current, approved emergency first aid certificate (minimum 8hour course).
  • A clear criminal record check
  • Proof of COVID19 vaccination is required

It Would Be a Bonus If You Had:

  • A Class 4 Driver's License
  • A minimum of 3 months experience in a child care centre
