Reporting to the Manager, Asset Planning, and Systems Engineering, the incumbent Supervisor is also responsible for station design, reliability analysis, smart grid and distributed energy resource projects, and all technical standards for the distribution system assets and equipment.

The Supervisor will also act as a competent person to review and approve engineering drawings and major equipment to meet the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) requirements and comply with O.

Reg. 22/04.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

STANDARDS AND EQUIPMENT APPROVALS

  • Review and approve standards and specifications, performing engineering analyses, and determining solutions affecting the electric distribution system to properly serve new loads.
  • Approve major equipment, materials, and drawings to be used in Elexicon Energy's distribution system for construction purposes based on type test reports and technical standards.
  • Review and approve technical processes and equipment failures and prepare reports recommending corrective actions on failure/incident.
  • Chair Elexicon's standards committee discussions to develop and approve new and innovative standards and/ or products.
  • Ensure compliance with CSA, ESA, and Ontario electrical distribution safety regulation 22/04.

POWER SYSTEM STUDIES

  • Review and approve generator and load connections impact assessments (CIA) in line with relevant CSA standards, HONI TIR, and
  • Contributes to station design studies, reliability analysis, smart grid and distributed energy resources projects, and all technical standards for the distribution system assets and equipment.
  • Review and approve specialized studies as requested by internal as well as external stakeholders and customers.
  • Review and approve short circuit studies, grounding studies, arc flash, insulation coordination, power quality, and protection & coordination studies.

SYSTEM RELIABILITY AND COMPLIANCE

  • Review and approve system reliability studies and failure analysis reports.
  • Responsible for tracking and managing key reliability metrics such as SAIDI/ SAIFI/ CAIDI/ FESI/ MAIFI or others as proposed.
  • Support Elexicon's mandate in committees and working groups with the regulator, HONI, IESO, and other 3rd party organizations, as necessary.
  • Lead failure investigations and develop corrective action plans that maintain a high level of reliability and safety of the distribution network.
  • Develop and lead internal research, investigations and analysis pertaining to economic impacts of reliability regulations, compliance, internal controls, reliability risks, and the effectiveness of risk mitigation plans.
  • Foster creativity and innovation and actively look for new ideas to improve the operation of the unit.
  • Provide a clear understanding to workers of their performance and communicate regularly.
  • Sound critical thinking that demonstrates experience building and executing strategies.
  • Provide analytical support to the Manager, Asset Planning and Systems Engineering
KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in a supervisory role is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of power system concepts along with practical experience on distribution and stationrelated assets
  • Experience with distribution network reliability and power quality standards and reporting requirements
  • Experience with root cause analysis, failure reporting, analysis and developing corrective action.
  • Experience with technical interconnection requirements for distributed energy resources (DERs), and/ or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Experience in preparing technical reports, regulatory evidence, and presentations as required by the Manager.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problemsolving and decisionmaking skills
  • Welldeveloped project management skills
  • Strong stakeholder and change management skills
  • Experience with power system tools such as CYME, EMTP, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Postsecondary degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario
  • Three (3) to seven (7) years of experience in a utility is preferred with direct experience in distribution
