    About the Role

    Flinks is introducing an Engineering Manager (EM) role to strengthen engineering execution, performance management, and organizational health across multiple product squads. This role acts as a people and execution leadership layer between the VP, Product & Engineering and our engineering ICs. It does not replace technical leadership by Staff and Principal Engineers, nor does it own product strategy or architecture decisions.

    Instead, the Engineering Manager ensures that engineering teams operate effectively, predictably, and sustainably — with clear expectations, healthy delivery practices, and strong talent development. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, requiring deep engineering fluency, strong judgment, and the ability to coach senior engineers in high-autonomy environments.

    Scope & Impact

    • Manages approximately 10-15 engineers across 1-2 squads (final scope to be confirmed)
    • Sponsors multiple value streams (e.g., Data In, Data Intelligence, Payments, Professional Services)
    • Partners closely with Product Managers, Product Quality Owners (PQOs), Platform/SRE, and HR
    • Serves as the primary owner of engineering performance, delivery health, and people leadership

    What You'll Do

    1. Engineering Performance & Execution

      You are accountable for how engineering work gets done.

      • Define, maintain, and socialize engineering performance metrics (delivery predictability, cycle time, quality, operational readiness)
      • Build dashboards and reporting that provide visibility into execution health across squads
      • Identify delivery bottlenecks and drive continuous improvement across tooling, CI/CD, and workflows
      • Partner with Platform, SRE, and QA to ensure reliable on-call practices, incident response, and post-incident learning
      • Improve engineering predictability without sacrificing autonomy or technical quality
    2. People Leadership & Development

      You provide direct people leadership in a high-trust, high-ownership culture.

      • Manage, coach, and develop a group of engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, and growth planning
      • Partner with HR on levelling, compensation calibration, performance reviews, and internal mobility
      • Support career progression for high performers and address performance gaps early and constructively
      • Foster a culture of accountability, psychological safety, and continuous improvement
      • Ensure expectations are clear, consistent, and fairly applied across teams
    3. Hiring, Talent Bar & Team Composition

      You help build a strong and scalable engineering organization.

      • Own hiring decisions for engineering IC roles within your scope
      • Partner with HR and Talent on workforce planning, interview design, and evaluation standards
      • Maintain a consistent hiring bar aligned with Flinks' engineering levels and values
      • Support onboarding and early success of new hires
    4. Engineering Organization Health

      You help the engineering org scale with clarity.

      • Ensure team rituals (planning, retrospectives, incident reviews) are effective and value-adding
      • Maintain clarity around roles, responsibilities, and ownership boundaries
      • Partner with Product and PQOs to ensure execution expectations are realistic and well-aligned
      • Act as an escalation point for delivery, people, and execution-related issues
    5. What This Role Does Not Own

      To preserve clarity and avoid role overlap

      • Product strategy or roadmap ownership
      • Feature prioritization or requirements definition
      • Architecture ownership (led by Staff/Principal Engineers)
      • Client-facing product discovery or PM responsibilities

    Who You Are

    • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in modern SaaS environments
    • 3+ years of experience leading or managing engineers, including senior ICs
    • Strong technical judgment and the ability to coach engineers without owning architecture decisions
    • Experience using metrics and operational data to improve engineering execution
    • Comfort operating in ambiguous, high-autonomy environments
    • Strong collaboration skills with Product, QA, SRE, and cross-functional partners

    Nice to Have

    • Experience in fintech, financial data, payments, or regulated environments
    • Exposure to developer experience, observability, or reliability engineering practices
    • Experience scaling engineering teams in person SaaS organizations
