    Salary: $79,186-$98,982 annually (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)

    Position Summary

    The role of the Safety Manager is to develop, maintain and support a comprehensive occupational health and safety program that fosters a healthy and safe occupational environment for the UHN Community.

    The Safety Manager is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of Health & Safety programs, policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines and ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and standards, UHN's corporate polices and collective agreements and support UHN's mission and values.

    Candidates holding Canadian Certified Professional Ergonomist (CCPE) is considered a priority for the role.

    Duties

  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, programs, procedures, and guidelines to ensure strict compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its prescribed regulations (, asbestos, WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems), construction regulations, etc.), Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and other safety and environmental legislation and standards as well as to support UHN's policies and strategic goals.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and training to all levels of the organization including senior management, union partners, department management, staff, contractors, learners, and volunteers.
  • Monitor, investigate and track reported workplace incidents and identify corrective actions and trends for continuous improvement.
  • Investigate staff, contractor, learner and/or volunteer safety concerns, conduct hazard assessments, physical demands analysis (PDA), audit workplace practices and compliance with legislation, collective agreements, internal policies and procedures, standards and complete occupational hygiene testing.
  • Represent UHN and liaise with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) and other external organizations and representatives, regarding safety investigations, compliance audits and other matters as appropriate.
  • Qualifications

  • 5 – 7 years of related experience
  • Completion of generalist University Degree (, Bachelor of Arts, Science, Nursing) or equivalent
  • A 3-year Occupational Health and Safety related diploma or degree required.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP - Canadian) or / Certified Safety Professional (CSP – American equivalent)/ Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH – American) or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH - Canadian)/ Canadian Certified Professional Ergonomist (CCPE)/ Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC)
