As part of the Security Operations Team, the Cybersecurity Analyst II will perform the following:

  • Cybersecurity Threat Intelligence research, product selection, design, provisioning, configuration, and operation.
  • Cybersecurity Automation and Orchestration research, product selection, design, provisioning, configuration, and operation.
  • Integrate solutions with other University services as required, such as ticket management, SIEM, etc.
  • Attend to the assigned day-to-day Security Operations and Incident Response tasks.
Organizational Status


The Cybersecurity team at UBC is responsible for creating, maintaining, and operating capabilities to detect, respond to, and resolve cybersecurity incidents across the University.

Work Performed


Specific Duties:

  • Build a cybersecurity Automation and Orchestration system by identifying the requirements, finding the right product for the job, designing a system customized for the UBC environment, implementing a robust system, and integrating the solution with various other UBC services such as the ticketing system and SIEM.
  • Build a Threat Intelligence system by identifying the needs, selecting the right solution, defining the architecture, implementing the solution, and continuously improving the system after the implementation.
  • Perform cybersecurity operational tasks assigned by the supervisor.
  • Design, implement, and support the Cybersecurity technical infrastructure.
  • Builds and maintains good working relationships with other IT groups, teams, colleagues, and peers.
  • Develops and maintains relevant documentation, including operational procedures and guides for peers and endusers.
  • Ability to work afterhours during cybersecurity incidents.

Core Duties:

  • Design solutions to resolve systemrelated business problems, meet user requirements, and streamline system workflows.
  • Formulates and defines system scope and objectives and recommends a strategy, potential solution, or "workaround".
  • Monitors and analyzes systems issues and provides recommendations for all systemssupported infrastructure as part of regular operations.
  • Provides guidance and training to less experienced analysts.
  • Writes and maintains systems documentation including user and technical manuals.
  • Designs, provisions, and configures systems.
  • Acts as a liaison between technical groups and stakeholders to coordinate the system's installation and ensure technical compatibility and satisfaction.
  • Prepares documentation and defines systemspecific dependencies to assist in problem analysis.
  • Provides recommendations for improving procedures and coordinating system implementation.
  • Integrates development of best practices, standards, procedures, and quality objectives across systems infrastructure or platforms.
  • Maintains appropriate professional designations and uptodate knowledge of current information technology techniques and tools.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
