Salary:
$72, Salary $70, vehicle allowance for entire contract $2,350)

  • Make this job opportunity your career and adventure. The Chetwynd Communications Society is looking for a multimedia producer and journalist who is interested in working in Chetwynd, B.C.
  • We are a small, and very energetic Community Station nestled in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies Come work and play in the outdoors of the Peace Region Not only will you be welcomed with open arms by our community, but you will also have access to six lakes, major hiking trails and some of the best skiing conditions at Powder King Mountain Resort Our mandate is to focus specifically on local news, meetings and events that major Networks are not covering.
  • The individual will also be expected to provide audio from interviews for Peace FM's news coverage.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research and identify the top civic issues in your community with community members and organizations;
  • Mentor local organizations and citizens in the production of video civic journalism, including the production of teaching materials if required or appropriate;
  • Create a production schedule to meet the weekly deliverables required by the LJI program;
  • Stay uptodate on local, regional, provincial, national and international news as it pertains to your community;
  • Through production partnerships, encourage and support your community's civic institutions in becoming more transparent and more open to public dialogue.
  • Create 2D graphics for short videos
(Ex:

name keys, statistics etc.)

  • Be comfortable in front of the camera (Host interviews or perform Stand Ups)

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Postsecondary education and/or adequate demonstrated work experience in journalism;
  • Keen interest in civic issues;
  • A positive attitude regardless of the situation at hand;
  • Work productively and respectfully in a small group setting;
  • Motivated to lead/work with local organizations and members of the community at large to produce quality productions;
  • Selfmotivation and proven ability to generate story ideas;
  • Ability to identify, research and produce engaging video stories, and to organize events and programming that engage the community in dialogue;
  • Strong digital video production skills;
  • Film and edit footage into 15 minute videos with a short write up.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends, to accommodate the schedules of volunteers;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Access to a vehicle if possible would be very helpful.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Have experience with communitybased media, including working with volunteers;
  • Possess Indigenous language skills or firstperson Indigenous cultural experience as per the locations listed above;
  • Are members of diverse, minority communities.
