Thomas Aquinas Roman (STAR) Catholic Schools is a regional separate school division in Central Alberta, operating schools in Lacombe, Ponoka, Wetaskiwin, Drayton Valley, Beaumont, and Leduc.


Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Mechanical Maintenance technician assists with inspecting and maintaining all electrical and mechanical equipment, including the heating and hydronic system, for the Division.


Working as part of an integral team member, the Mechanical Maintenance Technician must be able to troubleshoot, solve problems and repair tools and equipment under tight timelines; and to provide electrical expertise as required.

Specifics of the role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Prioritizes tasks to ensure equipment is available in areas that have the greatest impact on student needs.
  • Constructs, renovates and/or repairs electrical equipment in conjunction with electrical engineers.
  • Develops and maintains records of scheduled preventive maintenance.
  • Schedules inspections of equipment and locates and corrects problems.
  • Coordinates major repairs with vendors/contractors
  • Maintains and troubleshoots HVAC and hydronics
  • Occasional overtime and emergency on call shifts
