_Physical Demands:
_


  • Sitting for long periods at a desk for computer/typing work.
  • Standing for long periods of time.
  • Walking short distances and up/down staircases.
  • Typing and/or use of a computer keyboard proficiently.
  • Pulling/pushing/lifting to open and/or relocate binders, carts, etc. up to 10lbs.
  • Reading/seeing documentation both in paper format and on a computer screen for long periods of time.
  • Hearing differences in phone ring tones and/or in fire system horns or alerts for emergency response purposes.
  • Speaking/communicating in front of audiences and with individuals who may have impairments and disabilities.
  • Bending, kneeling, providing walking support for residents in the provision of resident care where required.
  • Dexterity required to open pouches/blister packs, insert test strips into glucometers, etc.

_Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional nursing care to all residents and supervise care given in the nursing unit.
  • Assess all resident needs and planning, implementing and evaluating the care program.
  • Work closely with General Manager, Attending Physicians, Food Services and Activity/Recreation.
  • Supervise all staff in nursing unit.

  • Provide directions and supervision of all Care staff.
  • Assess residents' conditions by recognizing signs and symptoms and where necessary initiates remedial health measures.
  • Contacting resident's attending physician when there is a change in resident's physical or mental condition.
  • Responsible to ensure safekeeping of drug and narcotic keys.
  • Responsible for administration of medications and treatments as ordered by resident's physician within his/her limitations.
  • Monitors staff performance and completes performance appraisals during probation period and annually thereafter.
  • Teaches good health habits.
  • Deals courteously with staff, residents, residents' families and visitors.
  • Responsible for admission and discharge of residents.
  • Maintain liaison with families of residents.
  • Takes prospective residents and other interested persons on tours of the retirement residence.
  • Ensures medical records are maintained.
  • Ensures daily/weekly and monthly duties are completed and rosters are maintained.
  • Organizing and ensuring medications are reviewed every three months where medications are provided.
  • Completes monthly weights and blood pressures on all residents.
  • Coordinates and/or participates in the staff development, quality assurance, safety, environment and infection control programs.
  • Ensures staff involvement in fire and safety procedures and communication to all staff of inspection reports and follow up actions.
  • Ensures Care Home Information Package is distributed to all new admissions.
  • Knowledgeable of the Residential Tenancies Act.
  • Ensures policies and procedures are reviewed every three years.
  • Ensures nursing documentation is complete as per College of Nurses' Nursing Documentation guidelines.
  • Assists with arranging transportation for residents.
  • Answers call bells and assist where necessary.
  • Orders medications from Pharmacy as per Doctor's orders.
  • Receives medications and storing medications safely.
  • Serve and supervise at meals assist with resident satisfaction.
  • Adhere to all established policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for making the appropriate plans for discharge as necessary.
  • Complete incident reports where necessary.
  • Supervising resident's personal hygiene and bathing as per schedule, or assisting when necessary.
  • Assist residents with ambulation when necessary.
  • Emergency medical care.
  • Responsible for maintaining an accurate waiting list.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records for "extra charges" if applicable.
  • Responsible for ensuring and arranging that all residents have an annual physical.
  • Ensures there are sufficient staff on duty to provide the services which are offered.
  • Assist residents and/or families in obtaining the services of a physician when necessary.
  • Ensures a resident care plan is established and reviewed/revised at least every six months.
  • Access, facilitate and orientate community agencies and/ or resources.
  • Facilitates contact with other Health Care facilities and educational facilities.
  • Collaborate with volunteers and staff in the development and implementation of activity programs and outside services.
  • Aware of role and responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

_Qualifications:
_


  • Current Certificate of Competence as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses
  • Medication Administration course
  • Good physical and mental health and free from communicable diseases.
  • Knowledge of the Nursing practices and nursing diagnosis.
  • Certified in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and First Aid.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Willingness to update and keep current their knowledge of changing r
