POSITION PURPOSE:


Reporting to the Administrator, is responsible for supervising the food service operations for the Regional Long Term Care facility; ensuring quality control procedures are implemented in accordance with health regulations, and Branch policies, procedures and processes.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises staff in the production and serving of food to residents and clients in the Long Term Care facility.
  • Supervises and inspects daily, the dining areas to ensure food quality, quantity and customer satisfaction are maintained, job routines are being followed, and meal and snacks are served safely and on time.
  • Ensures Department operates in compliance with MOHLTC regulations and other regulatory agencies, as required.
  • Assists the Manager in developing annual business/work plans and in developing service plans and staffing proposals.
  • Provides input into budget and business plan development, policies and procedures.
  • Provides input into the development of policies and procedures.
  • Supervises staff, including recruitment, selection, hiring, scheduling, assigning and monitoring work, determining training and development needs, coaching and mentoring, conducting performance appraisals and determining/recommending disciplinary action up to and including dismissal in accordance with collective agreements, Regional policies and practices.
  • Ensures that operating staff work in a safe manner and utilize all required health and safety equipment and protective devices and follow all measures and procedures as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Regional Policies.
  • Liaises with residents, clients, and Centre staff regarding food and nutrition requirements.
  • Responds to customer enquiries directly and/or resolves difficult or highly sensitive complaints either verbally or in writing.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a Chef training or Culinary Management diploma from a vocational or trade school or community college or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid membership with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management.
  • Minimum three (3) years demonstrated experience in Healthcare Food Service, large institutional or commercial establishment providing and supervising a full range of culinary production services, including supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Checks (PVSC).
  • Knowledge of use of all institutional and serving equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of related legislation, including The Long Term Care Homes Act, Sanitation Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, policies and procedures of the Region's long term care facilities, and Ministry of Health.
  • Leadership competencies including operating strategically, leveraging diversity and differences, customer focused, ensuring accountability, managing complex problems, financial management, employing interactive and effective communication, fostering collaborative relationships, cultivating engagement to drive vision and purpose, managing and developing talent, establishing and maintaining trust, displaying selfawareness, and demonstrating resiliency.
