About The ProjectRed Chris is a gold and copper mine located in the Tahltan Territory, northern British Columbia. The mine has been in operation since 2015 and has been operated by Newmont since 2023.
It is now transitioning from open pit to underground block caving—an innovative method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact.
This transition represents one of Newmont's most significant global capital projects and will create technically advanced roles and opportunities to work alongside global experts.

Your Impact
As Director, Health & Safety, you will provide strategic leadership and functional oversight for health and safety across the Red Chris Block Cave Project.
You will lead the Project Health & Safety team and provide strategic direction, governance, and oversight to ensure safe execution across all phases of the project, including surface and underground construction activities.
You will define and drive the safety vision, governance, and performance framework required to support one of Newmont's most significant global capital projects, ensuring alignment with enterprise safety strategy and standards.
Your leadership will directly influence project execution, contractor performance, and operational readiness, helping to establish a proactive safety culture and ensuring risks are effectively identified, managed, and reduced.
As a Part of Our Team, You Will
Lead and develop the Project Health & Safety team, providing direction, coaching, and accountability to deliver project health and safety outcomes across all phases of the project
Lead the development and implementation of health and safety strategy, standards, and systems for the Red Chris Block Cave Project
Provide strategic safety leadership across the full project lifecycle, including design, construction, commissioning, and transition to operations
Provide functional leadership and governance to ensure alignment with Newmont's enterprise safety policies and standards
Partner with project leadership, contractors, and stakeholders to embed safety into all aspects of project execution
Establish and monitor safety performance metrics, identifying trends and driving continuous improvement initiatives
Guide leaders and teams in identifying, mitigating, and managing operational and project risks
Oversee incident investigations and ensure effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions
Influence and support leaders in building a strong, sustainable safety culture grounded in accountability and proactive risk management
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, Newmont standards, and industry best practices
Support project readiness and transition to underground operations by ensuring safety systems, processes, and leadership capability are fully established
Requirements for Success in This Role
Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Science, or a related discipline
Extensive leadership experience in health and safety within mining, construction, or large-scale industrial or capital project environments
Demonstrated experience leading health and safety teams within major capital projects or complex operational environments
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement safety systems, governance frameworks, and performance improvement initiatives
Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence senior leaders, project teams, and contractor organizations
Deep understanding of safety legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices
Proven ability to build and sustain a strong safety culture in complex project environments
Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills
Your Work Environment
This role will support the Red Chris Block Cave Project located in northern British Columbia.
The position may be based on-site, fly-in fly-out, or hybrid and may operate on a rotational schedule.
You will work in a remote mining environment supporting the development of underground infrastructure and project execution. This environment requires strong leadership, adaptability, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and collaboration.
Newmont provides coordinated transportation to and from site through designated marshalling points located in Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, and Smithers. Travel arrangements are managed to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient access to site.

The expected salary range for this role is CA$153, ,370 . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia.
