    Your Opportunity:

    Wetaskiwin has an exciting opportunity for Assistant Head Nurse on Maternity. Reporting to the Unit Manager the Assistant Head Nurse is responsible for the coordination of a multidisciplinary team providing patient care within an acute care unit or program. The Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) acts as clinical resource/mentor for the multidisciplinary team and is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of patient care activities on the unit. In addition, being accountable for the application of evidenced based knowledge and critical analysis of patient care needs enabling optimal unit coordination, unit flow and continuity of patient and family centered care. The AHN provides consistency between shifts by facilitating effective communication and information transfer to the healthcare team. The AHN will provide support with day to day unit operations by working closely with the Manager. Assist with orientation and education of new staff, students and other learners through mentoring, coaching, selection of appropriate assignments and preceptors that will support staff/student growth and development. AHN will facilitate staff attendance at educational opportunities ( in-services, Safety Huddles, simulations etc.). Provide timely, accurate feedback (written and verbal) to the Unit Manager regarding staff concerns, and support conflict resolution. AHN will be required to provide feedback for annual performance appraisals by conducting formal and informal skills assessments to determine clinical competence.

    Description:

    As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

    Required Qualifications:

    Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).     Additional Required Qualifications:

    Minimum of 3-5-years of recent Labour and Delivery experience

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Current obstetrical nursing education (MoreOB-Alberta Perinatal Health Program). Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). Certification in Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns (ACoRN). Completion of Fetal Health Surveillance Course. Three-Five years of recent obstetrics experience.
