1 ‐ Full Time ‐ Cultural Communications Specialist

Director of Communications' Office
Reporting to the Manager, Communications and Engagement the Cultural Communications Specialist works within

the Portfolio Team. The Cultural Communications Specialist supports the implementation of proactive and effective

communications that promotes the Strategic Plan, primarily activities associated with the Equity, Diversity, &

Inclusion direction of Strategic Plan 2026. The Specialist will use their extensive knowledge and experience in

cultural awareness to ensure communication materials, activities, and initiatives are meaningful to and reflective of

various cultural audiences within the organization and throughout Northwestern Ontario.


EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in communications and/or public relations required
  • Experience in a health care environment
  • Working knowledge of the practices and techniques of planning organizing, evaluating and administering cultural
programs and events

  • Demonstrated experience in community outreach, consultation or stakeholder management
  • Experience in working with First Nations and Indigenous Communities/Partners
  • Experience working with other equity‐deserving populations
  • Experience in Crisis Management and/or Emergency Management Communications
  • Experience with social media tools, branding, and multimedia vehicles
  • Knowledge of the historical and ongoing impacts of colonialism and Indigenous specific racism on Indigenous
Peoples and health care systems.

  • Knowledge of French Language Services

Skills/Abilities:

  • Highly effective communication skills, i.e., technical, writing, conversational
  • Knowledge of emerging issues, challenges and gaps in ensuring equitable and effective health care access across
Northwestern Ontario

  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • Group/Team facilitation knowledge and experience
  • Works well in strategic, operational, and tactical environments
  • The ability to exercise effective judgment is essential
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative teamwork orientation, and ability to work with diverse personalities and
styles

  • Awareness of health care sector issues
  • Knowledgeable of the needs of Indigenous Peoples and Francophone Communities
  • Knowledge of current marketing and communications issues, trends and techniques
  • Adaptable to set and prioritize work with varying exceptions
  • Professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with confidential issues, patients, families and
colleagues

  • Ability to lead with cultural safety and humility at all times

Assets:

  • Indigenous Cultural Training is an asset
  • French language skills (oral and written) an asset
  • Ability to work with online content management and digital publishing tools

Salary Range:
$37.049 to 43.587
