This position is onsite in Esquimalt.

Position Summary


Thales is looking to hire a
QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety & Environment) Specialist who will work closely with the HSE/Facilities Manager and Quality Assurance Manager as well as the Esquimalt Operations Manager to ensure all Quality and HSE standards are met as well as recorded in the appropriate systems to ensure ISO standard compliance.

The QHSE Specialist will assume a dynamic role within the Esquimalt team.


Key Areas of Responsibility


This role is instrumental in implementing Thales Canada, Defence & Security strategy, policy and systems for Quality, Health, Safety and Environment.


HSE Responsibilities

  • Ensure the maintenance of all third party certifications and accreditation, including but not limited to ISO 14001 and ISO 4500
  • Act as a liaison with CFB Esquimalt base safety and FMFCB Safety Manager.
  • Manage Waterfront Dressing/First Aid Station to provide level 2 first aid response for Thales subcontractors working at the Waterfront.
  • Support the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Report and investigate all accidents/ incidents and facilitate form completion.

Quality Responsibilities

  • In coordination with the Quality Assurance Manager, plan and lead quality assurance and quality control activities on assigned projects.
  • Check that the project deliverables comply with the Customer's requirements and with the applicable regulations and standards.
  • Evaluate contractors' quality procedures and installed/fabricated hardware. Prepares written reports of any contract work that fails inspection.
  • Participate in quality team activities in support of ISO 9001:2015 requirements including audits and assessments.

Minimum Requirements

Skills and Abilities:

  • 2 5 years' experience with quality and safety management systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of all applicable Federal and Provincial legislation regarding Occupational Health and Safety plus any other relevant laws and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to deal diplomatically with people at all levels.
  • Quality and process safety management implementation considered an asset.
  • Strong skills in all MS Office platforms.

Education:


  • Postsecondary certificate or degree in technology and/or health, safety and environmental field is preferred
  • First aid courses (levels 2 or 3)
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018

Special Position Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to deal diplomatically with people at all levels.

Physical Demands

  • The QHSE Specialist will at times have to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. They may also have to do some light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time and walking the work environment during worksite inspections.
  • Will be required to undertake inspections, including confined space entry, on naval ships involving bending and twisting.

Regulatory Compliance Requirements:


  • Requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the ITAR or the EAR
  • Requires a positive Controlled Goods assessment as you will have direct access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program
  • Required to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance at the NATO Secret Level

The anticipated Total Target Compensation (TTC), inclusive of annual salary and bonus eligibility, for this role is 62, ,233.38 CAD Annual. The Company reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's status protected by local, provincial, and federal laws.

Special Position Requirements

  • Type of Role: Hybrid (Home/Office) flexibility to work from home, but expected to be in office as required to support the business.
  • Schedule: 40 hours per week.
  • Physical Environment: Office environment.
  • Travel: As required, including International.
